Economy Rent A Car - San Jose Complaint - Rent with Caution - False Damage Claims!

SAN JOSE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, COSTA RICA -- My friend and I rented a car this summer from the San Jose Aiport location from ECONOMY RENT A CAR. Upon returning the car, it was inspected by myself and the agent. We agreed that there was damage to the side of the car and I signed the appropriate paperwork concerning that. No other damage had occurred.

Upon returning home, my Amex bill had a claim amount for much higher than the agreed to damage. The bill included "tire damage" as well. The kind of damage they described would have made it virtually impossible for me to have driven the car back to the lot in the first place. They submitted a photograph (not sure where that came from!) and a document with my signature that I DID NOT sign.

Unfortunately, the insurance company could not help me with this fraudulent claim because they had "proof" albeit questionable. I emailed Economy Rent A Car to discuss and it has been 5-months and I am yet to hear back. My advice to you if you're traveling to San Jose is to AVOID renting a car from Economy at all costs!!

I suggest you take this up with Economy Rent a Car in the US and demand that they resolve to your satisfaction.

I have just rented in Costa Rica & booked through the Economy Rent a Car web site - there was totally misleading information on the web site regarding insurances. Beware - the rates quoted DO NOT INCLUDE ANY INSURANCES AT ALL(THIRD PARTY OR FOR THE CAR!)
