DirecTV Inc Complaint - PPV billed 45 days after cancellation
We had cancelled DirecTV with a few months to go on our two-year obligation, and were more than happy to pay the early termination fee for the privilege. This was done on October 31, 2010. We received boxes for our converters and promptly returned them (last box received by DTV 11/13). The final (?) bill with the cancellation fee was paid in advance of our 11/20 due date.
Today I noticed a $5.24 charge on my online bank statement from DirecTV, dated 12/19/10. No explanation, just a charge. I immediately telephoned these people to question this charge & to dispute it. They feed me a line of garbage by saying that this charge stems from an October EIGHTH pay-per-view movie order! They also said that they "occasionally dial in to the converters through the attached phone line, and when they (allegedly) did this, our account was already cancelled. It was ONLY after they received the converter boxes back (and allegedly purged any & all information out of them) did they claim this movie was purchased.
We are NOT disputing the purchase of this movie. It did happen. However, we are angered by the lack of timeliness in their billing to properly charge us for this. The supervisor flatly refused to reverse this charge (again, billed AFTER the account was CLOSED!!!). Additionally, if they service claims they are so "technologically-advanced" (regularly stating that they possess Emmy-award winning technology, then this farce is a sad state of their company. I put the supervisor on notice that I would be doing this (reporting things here and elsewhere) and that any charges made from this point forward would be considered theft and that I WILL be pressing charges against DirecTV!
