DirecTV Inc Complaint - LIARS, PLEASE PURCHASE ELSEWHERE!!! DOESN'T DESERVE OUR BUSINESS
I was a loyal DirecTV customer for 4 years mainly because I wanted the ability to purchase MLB Extra Innings in addition to my regular programming, and rumor had it that DirecTV may have gotten an exclusive contract with MLB. That didn't happen. With my DirecTV service, I also had Verizon DSL Internet. Upon moving, I had my DirecTV reinstalled at my new residence. I asked the technician just to hook up my existing 2 receivers but I could potentially want a 3rd down the road. He said he would hook it up while he was there (on a Saturday) in a room that didn't even have a TV and wasn't currently livable space, and that I should call on Monday morning to have them deactivate it so that I was not paying for something I wasn't using. I asked him if he could deactivate it immediately for me in the system and he said no to call on Monday. Well, over the weekend, I learned that I was not able to get DSL at my new residence and since FiOS was more expensive, I decided to cancel my DirecTV and bundle FiOS TV and Internet.
Upon calling DirecTV on Monday morning to not only deactivate the 3rd receiver but cancel my DirecTV altogether, I was told that I would have to pay a 220$ early termination fee because I didn't fulfill my 12 month obligation on the 3rd receiver and didn't deactivate it within the 24 hour deactivation period!!!! I told them that I followed the advice of the technician and told him that I didn't require the 3rd receiver at the moment, and they left me holding the bag. After speaking with a supervisor, I got nowhere except receiving a lecture on MY responsibilities. Fortunately Verizon agreed to offset my costs (and then some) for the first year if I switched over. At least they recognize it is better business to please a customer now to keep them in the long term, a simple business lesson that DirecTV hasn't apparently figured out. I am happy to give DirecTV the 220$ to swith to Verizon because it is the last dollar they will ever get from me. Do yourself a favor and tell anyone that will listen to bundle with Verizon. DirecTV doesn't deserve my business or yours.
