Leigh Automotive Mercedes, Tuscaloosa, AL Complaint - Buyers Beware
TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA -- We bought a 2004 BMW 325I from Leigh Automotive Mercedes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama a year ago this past October. The finance/insurance manager for Leigh Automotive led us to believe that any reservations we had about the reliability of the BMW SMG transmission would be covered by the $2372 premium warranty we purchased. Shortly before this past Thanksgiving, the transmission failed. The automobile was taken to the BMW dealership in Mobile, Alabama for repair. We were told that a hydraulic pump must be replaced and this would be covered by warranty. After this repair, the transmission continued to malfunction and the service department told us that another part was defective (the slave cylinder) and this part would not be covered by warranty. The slave cylinder was replaced at a cost of $1463.22 and this still did not remedy the problem with the transmission. The BMW service department then told us that the automobile would require a new transmission (cost of $4,378.81 plus labor) and this repair, also, would not be covered by warranty. This is so because the specific part causing the problem was not covered by the warranty but the part can only be acquired by replacing the entire transmission.
Evidently Leigh Automotive either does not understand the exclusions included in the extended warranty product from Assurant Solutions of St. Petersburg, Florida they are peddling or they didn’t clearly convey this information to an unsuspecting consumer trusting in the Mercedes good name. Leigh Automotive has refused all of our requests for restitution and has stated that they have "done the right thing" in confronting Assurant Solutions and discussing the issue with the BMW dealership. I think they should replace the transmission since that’s what we believed would happen should this day come. What do you think??? Buyers Beware, Warranty Useless, and Trust No One!!
