Gold's Gym International, Inc Complaint - Beware Gold's Gym Contracts
UTAH -- My husband & I signed up for contracts at our local Gold's Gym. We wanted to sign up for one year, but they wouldn't allow us to sign up for anything less than two years. About 3 months after we signed up, my husband got really sick & was diagnosed with kidney failure. The doctors said he needed a kidney transplant & would keep getting worse & worse until a donor was found. I contacted Gold's Gym to cancel our contract because not only could he not use the facility, we couldn't afford the monthly fees because of medical expenses. The lady I talked to said that she completely understood our situation, & it sounded like she was going to help us. Then she said that the contract couldn't be cancelled, they would bill us for the remaining 21 months on the contract, & that even if my husband died, our contract would still be valid. I was outraged by how sweet her tone was while she was saying something so awful. How can a dead man use a gym?!? I told her I understood if my half of the contract couldn't be cancelled, but could we at least cancel his part? Again she said there was no way we could get out of it. I asked to speak to her supervisor & got the same response from him. Neither of us have been back to Gold's Gym since then, but the bills keep coming with more & more monthly fees added. Also they had a collection agency start calling to try & get payments. It's been almost a year, & they still won't let me out of the contract. The moral of the story, don't sign a contract with Gold's Gym unless your life insurance policy is big enough to cover the payments after you're gone.
