Large Ads In Store Windows Are Not Family Safe Content - Complaint
NEW YORK -- When the unfortunate reality of a lingErie company opened a branch in our neighborhood, most women formed a protest storefront asking Victoria Secret to TONE down their sexually aggressive photos and displays on mannequins. It was noted as not child safe, compared to a porn shop window and highly offensive to the women of a wealthy and largely educated demographic.
They lost the battle and were forced to lessen their aggressive visual presentations to the public.
Since then, they have gradually added it all back growing more and more vulgar with larger than life photos of all white women with breast implants and bras that send them to their neck. It's looks like what I describe right now as I look out from a 10th floor window, opposite my building.
It is stressful to women who ask their husbands to look away. It's offensive to mothers with young children.
This is a company who neither cares or listens to the female public supporting their business.
I went to the Manager and was told she could do nothing and go to the executives. Good luck.
That was it. Nothing changed and these vulgar images of women strutting their bras and private parts in our faces 24/7 continues, and is too much. It is disrespectful to women of all ages. We don't want our men, parents or children seeing these standards and these views. It isn't anything but pornographic content.
Since when does a company think it their right of speech to offend women. Not a woman walking by approves and we'[re forming a boycott and petition to wake up the executives to go back to covered up clothed women in their ads. They can go inside for the undressed versions of their products. But for public display to host see through and all the variations of bras as though it's safe and normal to expose a young woman that way is WRONG.
The business will suffer in this branch when we're through with our boycott. If they don't want to give us what we want (respect) then they will lose our money.
We are a decent family oriented neighborhood as all our store window fronts display. Until this vulgar porn industry invaded our street, we could get to our destination without the assault of this in our faces.
Please make sure Victoria Secret stop this selling and exploiting of women as body parts and porn dolls.

It sounds like more of a personal problem OP. As a "highly educated" woman much like yourself I'm not at all offended by Victoria's Secret window displays. It's a BRA store, what are they supposed to display, fully clothed models? Yes I know, they sell clothing and other body items, but they are best known for their lingerie. They have every right to advertise that.
Not all VS models have fake boobs too OP, a lot of them are natural. And if you have a husband that gawks at the window and you feel bad having to pull him away then you haven't trained him well enough. Men are going to be men, lets be real. If they had a store with hunky dudes in nut hugging underpants I'd probably grab an eyeful too!
Lastly, I'm TIRED of people much like yourself screaming about vulgarity and needing women to cover up. You've obviously never shopped at Walmart, you'll see more butt crack and boobies hanging out then anything at VS.

How is it compared to a porn shop window? Have you ever seen a porn shop window? Every one I've ever seen has NO ads/pics on the windows at all and most are tinted so you can't see inside very well.
Are you also offended by those ads that come in the mail and right there for your kids to see are women in bras from JCP, Target, or Lane Bryant?
At any rate, if your entire neighborhood is boycotting this VS location, they'll probably be gone soon anyway right...since no one is shopping there.

Please speak for yourself. I am an educated woman, I'm married and I'm a mother of a young son. I have no problem with my husband looking at mannequins or even real life models in lingerie. I would never even think to tell him to look away. I really see nothing offensive about it in regards to my child.

My men and parents have seen these views in the flesh, my parents know what sex is and what women's underthings look like, how do you think I got here? And as for children viewing lingerie clothed mannequins and photos in the display windows, that is just another opportunity to teach healthy esteem and respect for bodies, or a lesson in marketing. How you react to these mannequins and photos says alot about your own esteem and insecure psychological state, and will have a negative impact on your children as your attitude fosters shame. Don't like it, don't look.

The responses here are very similar to my own. Rather than impose your morality on the entire public, perhaps you should be working on your own issues. Society has limits. Exposing genitalia (in American society)is not allowed. I've seen the Victoria Secrets ads that you speak of. There are no exposed genitals. You see more at a health club. Please seek counseling before bothering other people again.

seems that the OP may be under the misconception that wealthy educated women all think the same way she does.
that's just silly. not to mention that the average pay for female porn stars (according to wiki) is from $100K to $250K. that pretty much puts them into the wealthy demographic.
as for being educated, since some of these women also end up owning their own companies, i'm pretty sure the "education" demographic is covered too.

If you have a problem with your husband looking at an ad of another woman, then the real problem lies within your self esteem, not the actual picture. My bf can look all he wants at woman in ads, tv, magazines, etc. I don't find it offensive. I'm the one he loves.

If one needs to tell their spouse to "look away" in this society they will spend their time blindfolded. I can understand how the display may be found offensive or vulgar to some, however, in a free society such as ours this is one of the annoyances we must endure.

They sell bras with pushup and padding to get the effect that's depicted in the pictures and those bras sell quite well. There's nothing pornographic about their pictures. The pictures may look revealing but if you really look at them, they're not revealing anything more than one would see on a beach. Plus...they sell bras and panties!! So how else are the models supposed to be dressed.
I worked at VS for several years and I know that the women who shopped there were housewives and they were doctors. They were students, they were executives. They were young and they were old. I think you are doing a disservice to highly educated women by assuming that we are supposed to be offended.
