Dish Network Complaint - They Can Take It but They Can't Dish It Out
PALISTINE, ILLINOIS -- I was a Dish user for about 10 years and for most of the time I have had my monthly payments automatically deducted from my checking account. On 01/03/2011, I turned on my TV to see a message on the screen that I needed to contact Dish or my service would be disconnected.
The Sugarbowl was airing the following day and we didn't want to miss it. So, I went online to check my account. It showed that my account was past due. I then went to my bank's site to pay the bill. I had to get to work so, I checked my bank account after I got off to see if it was paid -- it had been. I discovered that I had made a mistake and didn't put the decimal point in the amount and my bank account showed an almost $20,000.00 payment made to Dish. It was after hours and I immediately e-mailed them both to let them know what happened.
The next day when I called Dish they said that they didn't have the money -- it could be in transit. I called again the next day (the 4th)-- they said that my bank had made the "mistake" and I should check with them. In the mean time Dish's automatic deduction for the correct amount had gone through as well.
The next day -- same answer when I called. On the 6th I called again to inform them that my bank told me that the money HAD been "cashed" by them so we got into a conference call between me, my bank and Dish's accounting dept. Today my bank called me to say that Dish "found" the money and would return it by next TUESDAY 1/11/11. They claimed that the amount of the payment confused them and they didn't know what the money was for.
God forbid they'd try to connect the dots and contact me -- after all they have my phone number and e-mail address. Many patrons of Dish pay by automatic deduction. Makes you wonder how they ever figure out where (or to whom) to credit ANY payments to. They didn't even TRY to contact me about the mistake that day -- they just waited for me to contact them. Funny they can deposit it in one day but it takes them almost a week to return it. Needless to say I am no longer with Dish -- their loss.
