Heat Wave Complaint - Overcharging - Fixing My Boiler

Review by supa* on 2011-01-09
BARNAGET, NEW JERSEY -- Ok my boiler had stopped working so my heat wasn't working so I called this company HEAT WAVE an asked them to come take a look at my boiler to tell me the problem the guy on the phone told me just to come an take a look an tell me the problem would be $55 but then when the guy gets here the price is now $82 so he finds the problem to be my inducer an it needs to be replaced.

OK so how will this cost me so he comes back with a price $441 for parts $142 for labor when questioned why so much his response was that my boiler was a older model an they didn't make parts for it so they have to make one for my boiler so he says its either that or pay a couple thousand dollars for a new one so I told him to get it cause I need heat in my home you know.

Luckily he had to order it because it gave me time to research it so I called the company that makes the boiler an they had given me a number to a place that sells parts to their products so I go to the web site of the place I was given an theirs the part that's supposedly no longer made for my unit and its for only $229 an I called a different company and asked them how much for a install of the part $90.

So please do your research its messed up that even in these hard times that people are trying to still take advantage of others.

It may be that they didn't locate the part in their search, though you would have hoped they would go through the same steps that you did. It is always safest to be educated - good job!
