Long John Silver's Restaurants Complaint - LJS cannot handle special requests

Complaint
Review by doglovingreviewer on 2011-01-17
TEXAS -- My mother and I ate here today. This was my first time eating at Long John Silver's, so I was paying attention to every detail to see if I could recommend it. Overall, this is a good restaurant if you're in a hurry and you like fish.

I ordered the fish sandwich combo (not sure what number that is) with hushpuppies instead of fries. This is where the problems started.

All combos include a drink. I politely asked the cashier if I could get water as my drink. She said no, but offered tea or sweet tea, which I did not want. Luckily, my mother said if I got the sweet tea, she would drink it (she loves sweet tea). Moving on...

My mother ordered the combo with a piece of chicken. She asked how many pieces were in the combo, the cashier said "one". So, Mom asked for an extra piece of chicken, since she does not like fish. No problem...

When we got our food, the extra piece in Mom's combo was FISH, not chicken. My mother had specifically told the cashier for an extra piece of CHICKEN, not a piece of fish. She was really disappointed.

Overall, I would recommend Long John Silver's. The food tastes good, and the employees do their jobs well (for the most part...communication between cashiers and cooks could be better). Just don't add too many special requests to your order. The employees might not to be able to keep up!

Did you tell them that your mom did not get the chicken piece that was to subsitute for the fish?

Yes they made an error, but they cannot attempt to correct what they are not made aware of.

Good review, no rant thanks, but a specific location would be helpful.

As with most chains, quality and service will vary widely from one location to another. There is an LJS in Chandler, AZ that is a stand alone, and we used to stop there every time we went to Phoenix. The have a bell be the exit, and if you are pleased, you ring it as you leave. Ding ding every time. The Yum abomination in Casa Grande, AZ doesn't change their fryolater oil often enough, yuck. The LJS/Taco Bell in Lacey, WA does it correctly, and deserves a try. As pointed out, they cannot make something right if they don't know it was wrong. Basically a good review, thanks.
