Swordsswords.com Complaint - Poor Product Return Policy

Review by dave_feu on 2011-01-17
My wife purchased a sword for my son before Christmas. When he opened his gift it would not come out of the hilt. The sword was stuck. He finally got it out but the handle came off. It appears a bolt that holds the handle to the sword unscrewed. Because the handle is molded plastic it can not be put back together without cutting the handle. I telephoned the company three times and never got through to a live person. I finally sent an e-mail and was advised I was over the 72 hour return policy. They could not advise about repairs because they buy them from China. So if you buy from this company check the product right away. If there is a problem call and e-mail that day of delivery and maybe you can get a refund or a replacement. I won't do business with them again.

I can understand your frustration, finding a reliable supplier for edged tools is difficult, and it help if you make yourself a more informed buyer. the last thinn you want is for a sword to come out of it's hilt, as the hilt is the handguard, handle and pommel. Your son could not get the sword out of the scabbard, or sheath. The handle attachment you describe is common, but I am having trouble picturing having to cut the handle to re-attach it. Usually, the tang (the extension of the blade that goes through the handle) is threaded, and the pommel screws onto that. Not the best method, but, as I said, common. My wife and I used to deal in knives and swords, but couldn't compete with places like you went through. I hope you can get your problem resolved. They should not be able to pass the buck the way they have tried. Next time, please try to find a reliable dealer. Good luck.
