"The most HORRIBLE car rental experience I've ever had !"

RICHMOND, CANADA -- "The most HORRIBLE car rental experience I've ever had!" First thing first, Economy car rental is merely a distribution agent and it offered me the car provider namely "Routes"(or acting for both??) in my trip to Vancouver. I arrived the shop at around 7pm and was given a Kia Forte instead of my choice Nissan Altima (is it similar for the substitution? I really doubt it) in a dusty and dirty condition inside out.

I requested to have it cleaned but the staff told me it was cleaned ridiculously. I had to wipe the car with my finger to show him. I insisted on washing it and finally they just water spayed it for a few minutes without having dried it for my inspection of the body and I had to dry it myself to inspect the body.... I didn't have the strength to argue but finally accepted and drove away because it was getting dark and I was exhausted from a 12-hours flight.

3 days later, I woke up at 8 am in the morning and found out the car was hit-and-run with a dent on the left rear door panel where it was parked at the back of a secluded house with a long private driveway with no public access surprisingly. Called police but they wouldn't come to investigate because there was no suspect!

Long story short, I brought the car back and they told me I would be responsible for a Canadian $2000 deductible because that was the insurance package I picked. I went to report ICBC (the only provincial govt insurance entity in B. C.) and I was told the max deductible for a hit-and-run was $750 and a garage gave me an estimate of about Canadian $700 to repair. However, I found out that Routes didn't even report to ICBC.

I kept asking Economy Car Rental and Routes to provide me the car repair estimate but I was kept beating the bushes from the date of the incident on 4th Nov and I still haven't seen any paper as of today.... (Update: The final repair charges from a body shop called Regal Collision finally arrived at $2036.33 on 28th Nov. days after I left the country and just dollars over $2000 ironically. The parts repaired showed LT Front door blending, Front door Belt MLDG R&I, LT Outer Mirror R&I, LT Front door R&I, LT Fuel door blending…. I was completely confused where the damages were 2 dents on the left rear door panel only! And I couldn't get a satisfactory answer from anyone of them….)

The hit-and-run in fact was a very suspicious incident because of the place where I parked. Someone had to drive to the back of the house to make that happen. I didn't know if the car was equipped with GPS or followed by anyone to locate my location. I never had any proof of what was in my head but I would urge you guys to be 100%+ careful to avoid any possible scam.

I thought I could save a few bucks as everybody wanted but I actually lost a bundle! My total rental charge was about Canadian $406 but now it became Canadian $2882 (7 times+ more!). My advice is that we all should go for reputable companies with proven satisfactory records. I will never ever use these 2 companies in the future, period! Phil ** Hong Kong 11-25-2019

Scam, Do Not Rent From This Company You Will Be Sorry

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- I made my reservation through Orbitz and thought I was getting a good deal on a car rental through Economy. Here's the scam... I arrived at my scheduled rental time 12am. I was sad to see a wait, I was patient. 2 hours later still in line no one could figure out what was happening. Why are we waiting so long? When it was my turn I was informed I had the choice of purchasing their insurance for 20 dollars per day or provide my insurance declaration page and pay my insurance deductible to them... Wait what? I have never in my life been asked for a deductible deposit and who carries around their insurance declaration?

I felt painted in a corner, it was 2:00am and me and my young daughter needed to get some sleep. I decided to purchase their insurance, plus I was expected to pay additional 200 (customary) deposit along with all of the other taxes and fees and walked away with a 400 bill, when I thought I had an amazing 89 dollar car rental. I was escorted to my car and the employee looked at me and said "I am sorry about the wait, I know how those guys are in there" referring to the scam artists inside.

Lastly, when I drove away I looked at the gas tank meter, I was given a quarter tank of gas. I don't know about you, but I have always been given a full tank, and expected to bring it back on full. Don't rent from this company... You will be sorry.

Worst Experience of My Life!

SAN JOSE COSTA RICA -- After renting a car for 3 months and getting told that they would only charge my card a month at a time, they charged it all in one month. After dropping off the car they charged me an extra 327.00 for excessive dust in the interior of car and another 347.00 for a dime size scratch on the plastic under the bumper. I had three flat tires that they didn't reimburse me for that were supposed to be covered. I had to change the tires myself and drop them off at a gas station to be repaired. I will never ever use this company again and advise anyone considering renting a car from them to do some homework and go somewhere else.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- This is by far the WORST car rental place. I had to wait over an hour for the shuttle to pick me up to take me to get the car. Then when picking up the car they informed me I had to pay an additional 36$ a day for some type of insurance. The guy said that if I used my American Express he would only charge me 31$ a day and at midnight I was not about to argue. Then I return the car. Had to wait another hour for the shuttle to take back to the airport almost missing my flight. Now today I get a bill for 21.11 for a toll which the toll was only 1.11. They charge an additional 20. administrative fee. This company is a JOKE. Do not rent from them. My bill was only supposed to be 89$ and now it's 250$.

TEXAS -- This is the first issue I've ever had with booking a rental car after years of renting a car. I was overcharged at the car provider when I picked up the car. I was only supposed to be charged $147 per the voucher but ended up being charged $215. I didn't elect any additional options they offered.

My issue is the voucher says I will be owed $147. The voucher didn't say taxes and fees will be added to that amount. It's deceiving to the customer and Economy Car Rentals is advertising no surprises.

After contacting them, I was told that it states that taxes and fees will be added in their Terms and Conditions document which is a long document no one reads when booking a car. Total amount was never fully displayed in any of the documents that was sent by Economy Car Rental before going to pick up the car.

FORT LAUDERDALE, MICHIGAN -- Car Rental Deception - Expedia - Economy Rent a Car - Fort Lauderdale. Through Expedia after comparing prices I rented a car from Economy Rent A Car in Fort Lauderdale for December 10-15, 2017. Price Summary “total price $85.80.” At pickup surprise additional charge of $45.82. They claim that basis can be found somewhere buried in their terms and policies. To my mind this was a fraudulent misrepresentation.

I suggest the following: The State of Florida should investigate, Fort Lauderdale Airport should ban from premises, Expedia should remove from their site and future customers should never use. Perhaps some industrious lawyer should consider a class action lawsuit.

Horrible Scammers Do Not Rent From Them!!!

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- I rented a mid-size car from Economy through Priceline.com. Gave them my credit card to hold the car as they required a credit card to reserve the vehicle. Got there after taking 2 shuttle buses. Gave them my driver's license, Insurance Card, and took out my credit card. They started with they needed my declaration from my insurance company, my insurance card was not enough proof. They then proceeded to tell me I had to buy their insurance AND leave a $1000 deposit on my credit card. They were rude when I showed them the confirmation and email, 3 other people behind me got involved as they traveled out of state often as well and never heard of any of this!

I wound up being stuck renting an at least 3 yr old vehicle, for over $100 of the confirmed total I agreed to when renting online. I was told they never charged my card, Priceline takes a fee and then they take their money. With full coverage insurance of my own, and now full coverage I paid for if theirs I refused to put $1000 down as a deposit since I was giving them a credit card not a debit card. They stated the deposit gets released as soon as they know gas tank is full, no damage, and no tickets. They hold your $1000 collecting interest for at least a month!!!

They lied in their paperwork when I reserved the car, lied about price, lied about the yr of the vehicle. The list goes on!!! Spend the extra money and go through the more well-known car rental agencies. Economy car rentals are liars and scammers!!! If I could rate them a negative 10 stars I would, 1 star is too good for them!!!

Complaint About The Service, Do Not Rent From Economy Rent A Car In Costa Rica
By -

Do not Rent from Economy. I was a customer for 7 years and they do not care about it. We have had a very bad experience with Economy. In fact, the experience has been so bad that unless you stand up and correct the situation, we will not rent a car with you again and will not recommend your company to our friends and family anymore. This is because of what we feel has been questionable transactions on your part, and questionable business practices. Additionally, we feel your cars have been dangerous and could have resulted in serious injury.

First, we will start with the fact that we lost valuable vacation time because we had to have our rental car changed 4 times. The first car had high beam lights that would not work. The next day we were driving to Guanacaste, this would have been very dangerous to drive with no high beam lights. However, when we first reported the lack of high beam lights to your employee, he told us to go on ahead without them, and that we “me la jugara sin las luces hasta manana”. We insisted on changing cars, and so you brought us another car.

The second car had a brake light that kept coming on. Having brake problems is very dangerous, so once again, we had to bring in the car to exchange it. As the possibility of having the brakes go out at any moment is very dangerous, we brought in the car immediately. However, the Economy employees were not worried about the brakes, but upset that we did not fill the tank up with fuel first! This is ridiculous—safety comes first!

So, we got the third car. The third car had an alignment problem, and was very difficult to steer. However, even more dangerous, was the fact that the engine kept overheating. We barely made it to the Sabana agency in time before it overheated. This was at 9:25 pm, (approximately) on January 5, and the agency was supposed to be open until 10 pm. However, the agency was closed so we had to sit in the parking lot and wait for someone from the airport to come and bring us the fourth car.

The fourth car had a passenger side mirror that had been attached from a smaller model car and therefore did not work on that car very well. In San Jose traffic, the side mirrors are very important. Four cars in three weeks, and all of them had problems. These were all mechanical problems that were dangerous.

In the United States, had such a problem happened, we would have received no charge for any car since this is a severe lack of service—especially for a loyal customer of 7 years. When I spoke to ** about these problems on January 5, she told me that she would give us a substantial discount for our troubles, and that she would have the paperwork ready for us when we returned the car. When we went to return the car she had not done anything.

When I told her about the discount again, she said she could only discount 2 days off of our 22 day rental bill. Then she said to give her a couple of days and to call her from the United States and she would review the case and give us an additional discount. However, once we returned to the United States, she would not return calls, and was constantly “out of the office” or “out of the country”.

Then, once we received our credit card report, we found out that there were additional charges to our credit card for “damages” that we never were told about, nor shown, nor given any documentation about. We believe that this is an incorrect action. We have all of the documentation to prove that those charges were added after we signed off the contract with Economy. At check in, the cars were checked by the employee and he did not report any problems. We went over the copy of the car drawing. The cars were fine.

There is an additional charge of 71.500 colones for something we were never told about nor signed off on. This is not right because you never had my authorization for this charge. I called Economy to find out about this new charge on my credit card and was told there was a scratch in the bumper, yet we were never told about those things at check in. Plus never paperwork, pictures, etc were send to me so I could claim this charge to my credit card.

We are being charged 663.075,00 colones for the bumper and the light that were damaged when a car ran into our first car. Those 2 charges are fine, however, the new “tire” and the new “carpet” that you are charging us were not damaged by the car that hit us and we were never shown these damages when we checked in the car. Again, that is not correct. Then, when we received each car, they were in very used condition. The carpet in the back trunk area was badly used, however you are charging us for a brand new carpet.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- This location is so notorious. The booking was made online at a reasonable rate, but when we reached their rental location, they demanded three times more charges. Same happened to the other two customers, who were picked up from the airport. The counter guy was yelling and threatening us to throw out in the middle of the night in a no man's land. I ended up paying the crooks as there was nowhere to go in the night. Worst experience in my 40+ of travelling.
