Ikea Complaint - Poor design of IKEA Elverdam faucet
STOUGHTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- It was first and last time I tried IKEA kitchen appliance. The faucet price is $190. I'm not novice in plumbing, and basically do all in house myself, and even worked as contractor ‘Jack of all trades”. Plus, I have engineering degree and can do simple mechanical and electrical design.
First problem was the manual which comes with the faucet. It does not show where hot pipe should be connected. Not a big problem, I can swap later, but decided to do all things right. Finally, I went to IKEA web site and after 5 – 10 minutes of search I got and printed new manual. It is significantly different from officially shipped version. And yet, even showing where pipes should be connected, it is still unclear drawing. So, I connected to the best of my understanding. I was wrong! When I installed the faucet, I needed to swap pipes.
Now – shortly. After I installed the faucet the gooseneck pipe stack inside and it was not possible to pull it out. The water stream coming from the faucet makes all around wet, including people. Green water use in Sweden???
Bad manual, bad design, definite design flaws.
I went to Home Depot and bought Moen faucet of very similar design for $180. Good manual, normal water stream, and long brass pipe in it preventing from jamming gooseneck during installation. Very easy installation process. I like it very much.
