Chase Manhattan Bank Compliment - Irritating, but understandable.
Last weekend, around 9:30pm, hubby and I were downstate when we decided to go to Walmart to purchase a laptop so hubby could indulge in his video game habit while marooned at my parents place out in the BFE. We found a laptop we liked (Sony Viao) and after having to deal with the Walmart customer service, we brought it to the cash register. We were originally going to pay with our BOA debit card, but it didn't go through (I'll get to that in a minute), so we decided to just put it on our Chase Mastercard and worry about it when we got home. Well, that didn't go through either. So, I called Chase and the automated service informed me that I had to verify who I was and that it was me that was making the purchase. After verifying my number, last 4 of my SS, and my mother's maiden name, I verified that it was indeed me that tried to spend that amount of money. They approved it and the purchase went through the next time the cashier rang it up. Less than 2 minutes later, BOA called me for the same purchase. Yes, I was annoyed that I had to spend time to verify my identity with Chase (and BOA), but I try to put it in this perspective--what if it wasn't me trying to drop that kind of money for a purchase? I certainly would have appreciated a heads up that my card was being used without me.
