Sleepy's Complaint - Refund Problems - Bed
PARLIN, NEW JERSEY -- I purchased a bed at Sleepy’s in August 2010. At that time the store was having a promotion which deducted the price of the sales tax. This came to a reduction of $28.00. I paid with American Express. After the transaction was completed and I was given the receipt, I noticed that the $28 was included in the price. I brought this to the salesman’s attention and he sent an email to the Billing Department to refund that amount. After numerous phone calls to Sleepy’s and no refund, I filed a dispute with American Express on October 4, 2010 for the amount of $28.
Sleepy’s notified American Express that they had sent a check to me in that amount which they did not. They produced a copy of a check made out to someone else at another address. American Express closed the dispute. I filed another dispute claim with American Express for the same amount in November 15, 2010.
In mid-January 2011, I received a check for $28 from Sleepy’s and then a phone call from Sleepy’s asking me to close the case with American Express. I told them I would do so. In the interim, I had a sudden family tragedy which kept me out of state for several days. When I returned I had numerous messages from a Sleepy’s representative telling me that American Express had deducted the entire amount of the bed. When I did speak with her I explained my family’s situation and told her I would get to it as soon as possible. She continued to call daily.
Today, I received a letter from a collection agency! They are threatening me if I don't send them a check for the entire amount.
I found the BB in my state and saw that Sleepy's has so many complaints lodged against it that they are not given a BBB endorsement.
