Kodak all in one printer - Complaint
Review by danfromok on 2011-01-30
Buyers beware. My wife purchased a Kodak all in one printer roughly a year ago. We thought that it would be a wise investment due to the cheaper ink prices. Little did we know, Kodak printers have lots of issues with their printer heads. Now that the faulty printer head needs replaced Kodak "customer support" does not want anything to do with it. Although they will send a replacement for $25 dollars, I don't feel that is our place to replace their faulty junk. The customer service supervisor said he couldn't help me anymore and that I used up the useful life of the printer. I asked to speak to someone in the United States which was something he said he could arrange in the next 24-48 hours. Although I am not very hopeful. I will never purchase another Kodak product ever again and would not recommend this company to anyone I know. What ever happened to a company standing behind their own product. What a joke!

Probably any printer that uses individual ink cartridges for each color (as opposed to a "tricolor" ink cartridge) would have low ink costs as well. Some Canon models used individual cartridges for each color. And with most printers, some places refill the cartridges...Walgreens charges $10 to refill black cartridges and $15 to refill tricolor cartridges...but some cartridges cannot be refilled. I have had good luck with my HP printer...although cartridges for it are more expensive, they can be refilled.

I am on my second Kodak Printer. With the first I had an issue once with the printhead, and initially they asked for $25 to replace it but after being firm and polite it was not only replace but overnighted for free.

All low cost printers are essentially "throw aways" in my opinion, as the cost of replacing basic ink cartridges more than once pays for a new printer with ink cartridges. Kodak's cost for ink cartridges is signifigantly lower in my experience, at around $28.00 for color/black ink combination packages - I have priced other ink cartridges at $35 and up for only the color.

I just picked up a Canon MP495 wireless printer for $50 at Office Depot.

Another option, for any printer, are store brand ink cartridges, which are mainly refilled, recycled, and refurbished OEM ink cartridges, and cost about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of a brand-name ink cartridge. And they work just as well.
