Lakewood Lube and Repair Complaint - Worst service & staff

Review by LittleO on 2011-02-02
My boyfriend took his Toyota 4runner to this shop last week for a SIMPLE oil change. His car ran perfectly fine prior to taking it to this place (about 200-300 miles per day because he DRIVES for a living). First of all, $40.00 for an oil change is RIDICULOUS and second of all they didn't even do it properly!!!!! Not even 5 minutes down the road his car broke down and was smoking. He finally got it to my house and there was not a DROP of oil in it and the oil filter was screwed on crooked. They looked at it and REFUSED to fix or pay for any of the damages caused by their stupidity. They quoted him nearly $2,000.00 in repairs which is OUTRAGEOUS. He found a guy that could do it for half the price. The staff was rude, the service was terrible and I want to make sure EVERYONE I know NEVER takes their car to this JUNK SHOP.

It's a good idea to check the oilpan after a shop changes the oil, often they don't tighten it back up right. Never thought of checking the filter too, thanks.

The most common cause of problems after an oil change is not that the drain plug is left loose, but that they tighten it too much and strip the threads. It does not take a whole lot of over-pressure to strip the threads on most drain plugs.

didn't the check engine light engage? this would have been the first clue to NOT drive any further without investigation.

my oil changes cost me 40 dollars!

By the time the idiot light come on the engine is likely damaged. I don't know if oil pressure triggers a CEL or not. There is an oil pressure light on any car I am familiar with, so it would be redundant.

I wonder if you can take them to small claims court or something. If they screwed that filter on crooked, they are responsible for the damage IMO.
