Chuck e Cheeze Complaint - Bait & Switch advertising

Review by buildit on 2011-02-05
IRVING, TEXAS -- Here is a copy of the e mail I sent to there corporate office
Go to there website and check it out yourself under Birthday Party Specials

Your website under parties advertises a special for booking a party on Friday or Sunday
Here is the copy pasted from the site

Birthday Party Specials

For a limited time, get 100 BONUS TOKENS at a reserved party Friday or Sunday. At participating locations. No coupons needed.

NO where in this offer does it list reserve by or any other restrictions
Imagine my surprise upon booking a $ 200 + party at your facility in Boca Raton, for Sunday April 10th 2011, that I DID NOT receive the tokens as advertised.

When I questioned your "Guest Relations" department I got some lame answer that I had to have the party prior to April 3rd!!
Oh Ya? Where does it say that in the offer.
No apology, just a cold calculated answer that I was not within the limit of this offer

Poor advertising, poor public relations.

If your going to make an offer clearly spell out the restrictions if any and valid dates!!!

I am soured by this experience and certainly my friends with children will be made aware of this "Bait & Switch"
Change your ad or cancel it, and fire your "Guest Relations Department"

Well, it does say for a limited time, but not 'within' a limited time, so I see your point. If they are a participating location, it would be good customer service to give you the tokens.

I would be upset too, but I'm a little confused as April 11th 2011 isn't for another 2 months and 6 days.

The OP must be booking the party in advance

ooooh.. okay I kind of feel stupid now...anyway, I would have canceled the BD party and found another place to host it if that's the kind of answer I got.

Whatever happened to having a kid's party at home? My nephew's bday is in June and we have a water party in the backyard every year. The kids have fun and it doesn't cost too much to get toys like water guns and water balloons.

+100 Little

Little, agreed, but when I was younger, going to Chuck E Cheese was almost like going to disney world. Kids eat it up!

I just think it's a waste of money to have a bday party there. I take my nephews to Chuck E Cheeze or Peter Piper when I want to spend some time with them.

I'm also 29 now, so its been quite some time since I've actually BEEN to a chuck E cheese, maybe 15-20 years a go. Not even sure if they are still the same as I remember them.

Lol I'm 29 too. Good age. Scared to turn 30 this year
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-02-05:
me too....I'll be 30 in just about 2 months...ugh..
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-02-05:
I turned 30 last spring and dreaded it for months. Not so bad though...what do they say now? 30 is the new 20!

I would cancel my party reservation if I was in this situation. are there any alternatives ? Around my area there are a few places similar to Chuck E Cheese that do partys. They are actually better.

It says for a limited time. Like the others said, cancel it if you don't like the deal you got.

I'm turning 29 this year. Last time I was in a CC was when I turned 6. I'm sure I'll have to go to one someday when Baby Clutzy is old enough. **shudder**

If 30 is the new 20, what is 71...?

71 is the new 50

Our local CEC has armed security.

After a fight broke out at CEC when I worked there we too got armed security on weekends. It's sad but people are stupid and can't control their families. OP, you reserved too far in advance. The offer is a limited time only.

Littleshorty--I'll bet the food is less expensive AND better, too!

I just went to CEC a couple of weeks ago for the first time ever! My son loved it, of course. He also came down with a bad cold later the same week. I'm sure the two are not totally unrelated.

Danny, we get Costco pizzas and make koolaid. So yeah, less expensive.
Posted by Ytropious on 2011-02-06:
momsey, probably not. I never get sick but during the time I worked there I came down with a bad illness and had to go on antibiotics. I'm pretty sure working there was the cause. Never been on antibiotics before or since.
