Wal-Mart Complaint - Mad As Hell - Wheel Chairs

Wheel Chairs - Complaint
Review by yankee on 2011-02-07
ALABAMA -- I have been going to Walmart since it came to Talladega years ago. My wife an I are old, in our 80's. When we shop at Walmart store in Talladega they don't have any good push a round wheel chairs. The basket is gone on one, the handle on one, the foot rest on another. They don't move easily. I have talked to the manager about this several times all they say we will see about it.

If ya'll want my business ya'll need to do some thing about this. Its only in Talladega store.

Thank you
Mr Carlson

These are a convenience for those who need them. You're dealing with WalMart here - selling at bargain basement prices. In the long run, it makes sense to provide them - but WM may not see it that way.

WalMart makes me "mad as hell" also, which is why I do not shop there.

sorry, while its a nice 'courtesy' no store is obligated to provide you with wheelchairs. Yall may need to bring your own.

It has been my experience that Wal-Mart "managers" are little more than titled positions in their store. They have very little input as to what is in their store or how maintenance is done. The entire operation for all stores is controlled by a central computer system in some other state. Maintenance and equipment replacement is done by time line driven schedules.

It sounds like the wheel chairs at your store are subject to more destructive customers than other stores.

tnc -> "Maintenance and equipment replacement is done by time line driven schedules." This reminds me of a segment on the show where the CEO goes under cover, possibly for a quickie mart chain. He discovered the centralized maintenance system was very ineffective.

I wonder how far away we are from the government mandating that stores of a certain size provide wheelchairs, to go along with those handicap parking spaces and service dogs access.

Bring your own chair?

As much as I despise walmut, It's your responsibility to provide transportation. Their's ends at the handicapped parking place.

I have an incomplete spinal cord injury that makes walking difficult. I would go to big stores and use their electic scooters(if they even had them). After about 5 times of getting to the back of the store and having the stupid thing die, I decided to just buy my own. If it runs out of power at the back of the store, I can only grip to one person...me! :-)

If a business is going to provide these motorized chairs for their patrons, then they should be taking good care of them. Yes, it's their choice to do so - and they chose to do so...so why is it unreasonable for someone to expect them to be in good working order? It isn't. What would happen if someone was injured while operating a defective chair? Would Walmart be liable? I would think so.

This is one of those things that stores are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
