Dish Network Informative - Not Bad Service, But Outright Theft Attempt.
I cancelled my non-contract sattelite service with Dish Network in Dec. 2010. They pro-rated a partial month's service, accurately (I think), and then said they were sending a box for MY receiver.
I told the representative 'Fine", but I'm keeping MY receiver. I bought it on eBay 18 months before (have all my records, available to Dish for a fee that's increasing as the magnitude of their error grows). They said their records indicate 'leased equipment'. Ok, send me a copy of that agreement. Then I told them, since that agreement doesn't exist, try listening again the the 'Quality assurance and training recording', that you made when I called you, BEFORE ever buying it on eBay, to make sure that the previous OWNER OWNED it, and could sell it.
I guess they don't have that recording. No problem, listen then to the next recording of the call I made to you when I got it in the mail a week later, and called you to activate it.
I guess they don't have that recording either. Too bad. Do you have ANYTHING? Nope...
Then an auto-recording call came one day, saying I was a contract customer, and needed to return 'leased equipment'.
It gets better - LOTS better, but save the details. At some point, it might pay off in $ome way...
In the meantime
