Honey Baked Ham Complaint - Honey Baked Ham Coupon

Review by MJGoldfarb on 2011-02-11
CLEARWATER, FLORIDA -- First let me state HoneyBaked Ham has a very good product. I am writing this complaint after giving the company 6 weeks to respond to my email complaint to their "contact us" page regarding a coupon redemption. HBH usually runs coupons for $$$ off its products in many newspaper advertising circulars around the holidays. I also received an email (special customer) coupon for $9 off any 8+ pound ham - a discounted amount larger than the newspaper coupons. Arriving at the Clearwater, FL store on the morning 12/22/2010, I asked for at least an 8 pound ham and was told that it had to be a pre-ordered item for a ham of that size. Nowhere on any coupon was that stated. The male clerk was very arrogant and gave me a "tough luck" attitude. I asked if the coupon could be honored for a smaller amount but that request was also refused. I know it was a few days before Christmas and an item could have been sold out (their signature product!!) but that was not the case. Nowhere on the coupon was the "pre-order" requirement listed. (And yes, I did purchase a smaller ham. )I am sorry the company didn't see fit to at least respond to my complaint, thus this review. I guess my advice to readers would be to question the coupon restrictions (if any) before using it.

The preorder requirement for hams 8lbs and over could be an in store requirement because that location doesn't sell enough to keep them in stock.

With over 400 stores. I doubt that they would put every stores individual policy on coupons because then coupons would become too long.

Did you need the ham right that minute? If not then you could have asked how long it takes for a ham to come and preorder it and also pay for it and use the coupon.

You should do what my wife did; she went to a local butcher and had them prepare a fresh ham for our holiday dinner. It was by far the best ham we ever ate and it was quite easy to cook.

Good review. I know not every store has to honor the coupon, and there might be restrictions, but the clerk's attitude was just plain wrong.

Sounds like at the holiday time Honey Baked requires a preorder for anything over 8 lbs. Sounds like all the store had on hand for the OP were under 8 lbs and the coupon stated it had to be over 8 lbs.
