Hoskins Chevrolet in Elk Grove Village, IL Compliment - Overhauled my GM transmission as 'warranty repair'

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILLINOIS -- The transmission in my 2001 Chevy Venture minivan failed on Friday, 15 April 2005, while driving at night on I-94 (Dan Ryan Expressway) into Chicago among SEVERAL lanes of speeding traffic (see my post '2001 Chevy transmission failure'). Saturday morning I took a risk and drove it to a nearby dealership, Hoskins Chevrolet, in Elk Grove Village, IL (suburb west of Chicago). Service department manager 'Arnie' and service advisor, Jim, asked me if I called CHEV-USA yet for service. I called them earlier for location of a dealership, but as my van was out of warranty, I didn't ask them for service. Jim told me to call back and file a claim for service even though it was out of warranty (by 5 months/5407 miles). My van could not be looked at until Monday; I rented a car and finished my one-day trip in Chicago and drove back home - 3 hours south. Monday afternoon I get a call from the service department that the tranny is TOAST- has to be replaced, estimate is $3300. CHEV-USA did not call me back with an answer when they said they would and when I called the rep assigned to my claim, she was unavailable and I would get her voicemail repeatedly. On Tuesday I speak on the phone to 'Zack' , one of the transmission mechanics at Hoskins; I wanted to know if Chevy is going to pay for the repair. He tells me he is overhauling the transmission as a 'warranty repair' - no charge!! He said he researched my vehicle and saw that it had never had any warranty work EVER for ANYTHING and the miles were so low that he decided to just do it. Keep in mind the 'big boss' service manager is on vacation! Seems 'Zack' doesn't need to fear for his job though; the service guys there Saturday (when I dropped the van off) told me his is one of the top ten transmission mechanics in the nation!! Yeah, and more importantly, he has a conscience for customers getting screwed by GM transmissions!! They did not pay for my rental, but that's okay - I saved at least $3300. I thank God for "Zack" and the other service department personnel at Hoskins Chevrolet and I really appreciate him doing the job that all GM dealerships should be doing... SERVING their customers!!!! And, Yes, I am still filing a complaint with the BBB against GM for still using defective parts in their transmissions when they discovered in 2000 they were inferior and would cause transmission failure in their vehicles.
