Pleasant Valley Safety Storage - Uhaul Complaint - Had To Call The Police On This Lady - Don't Do Business Here!

Review by lmcwhir on 2011-02-14
PLEASANT VALLEY, MISSOURI -- February 14, 2011 - I arrived at Pleasant Valley Safety Storage to return a U-haul truck. I got out of the truck and this lady (I don't know her name)was walking towards me on the sidewalk and abruptly and sternly said, "I need your keys". I handed her the keys and she said again abruptly and sternly, "Wait right here", which my son and I did. She walked over to the truck, opened the back and said again, abruptly and sternly, "You need to fold these blankets and sweep out this truck". I gave her a dirty look, not because of what she had said to me but how she was ordering us around and she continued to mumble something about how U-haul would charge me $1 for every blanket that's not folded. I approached the back of the truck and said, "Yes ma'am" and saluted her and proceeded to tell her, "You don't have to be like a drill sergeant. I will take care of whatever needs to be taken care of but don't talk to me like that". Around the middle of my sentence, she proceeded to go to the front of the truck, ignoring me and started it. My son and I proceeded to fold the blankets.

When we were done, I went to the office door to go get my receipt and there was a closed sign on the door and it was locked. (It was only 5:05 and they closed at 5:30). I continued to knock on the door and from the inside she yelled, "This is private property - get off my property". My husband had arrived by now to take us home so when he heard what was going on, he called the police. The police arrived and they had to go into the office and talk to her. Then when they escorted me into the office, she told them in a stern and abrupt voice, "I don't want her in here!". The policeman said, "Hey, we have to conduct business here!"

So she finally took care of my receipt and spoke (while in front of the policeman) very nicely like she was an angel or something. Stay away from this self storage units and if you have a choice to turn in your U-hauls, please choose somewhere else. She is the rudest person I think I've run across in a long time. A little advice to you, lady. If you don't like your job, QUIT and do the everyday consumer a justice. No one wants to be greeted like that and no one wants to be talked to like that either.

Try a little kindness, say hello when you see someone and you'll be surprised at their reaction. We moved to Missouri from Texas and what kind of a welcome is that? In Texas, everyone is very friendly and go out of their way to help you. They even wave at people they don't know, just to be friendly. Thanks lady for the horrible first impression of Liberty Missouri! This doesn't appear to be the first complaint about this place and I don't think it'll be the last. U-haul - a little advice to you. I know these people are private contractors but if I had someone representing my company and they had to have the police called on them, I don't think I'd want my name associated with them. You should really consider renewing a contract with that place. If you need to get in touch with me further, please email me at outinthehall2002 at Yahoo.com.

You saluted her? Funny.

So this lady was a little blunt, some people ARE blunt. Not everyone means it to be rude, but you did mean to be rude the second you sarcastically saluted her. The whole police thing is a little out of hand though, how odd.

I don't know, something does not make sense. I'm not doubting the OP's story, but there are always 3 sides to every story, the OP's, the employee, and the truth, which lies somewhere in the middle.

I try not to say this too often, but something seems to be missing from this story. If that's the employee's usual behavior, I can't imagine her not getting fired due to all the complaints. This goes beyond being rude. Why did she lock the OP out of the office?

We've all encountered rude employeee's, but this seems over the top, especially the part where the employee was yelling through the door to get out of here, this is private property.

Makes me think there is more to this story.
