RYOBI Complaint - Warranty Useless To Homeowner - Hedge Trimmer Attachment

Hedge Trimmer Attachment - Complaint
Review by SHAKEYGUY on 2011-02-16
I purchased a hedge trimmer attachment just over two years ago for my Ryobi.
I have used it less than three hours as I only use it one hour in spring of each year before it failed.
I contacted Ryobi and they stated I only had a two year warranty which I missed by two months and had revised the warranty to three years just after I purchased it. They refused to give consideration to me not being a commercial user and just stated flatly. "out of warranty" "will not consider".

My last Ryobi product and will never say a good word about them.

What does this statement mean?
"...they stated I only had a two year warranty which I missed by two months and had revised the warranty to three years just after I purchased it."

Was your warranty two years or three years? If it was two years, you did miss it. If you believe it was three years, I don't understand why they say it was two.

Unfortunately, your hedge trimmer was not purchased recently, so a two year warranty is a two year warranty, not a two year and two month warranty. Incidentally, commercial warranties are usually shorter due to the difference in product usage (daily versus weekly/monthly). As well, commercial use often voids consumer warranties. Is it possible you misunderstood Ryobi(TTI)? I have never heard of a manufacturer extending a warranty after purchase.

The end of the warranty period is the end of the warranty (period). It will be the same with every manufacturer. Even if you used it 3 hours there is no way to determine how it was maintained.

If you did revise the warranty to three years after you purchased it don't you have some sort of paperwork stating this. If you have written proof that the warranty is now three years then show them, if not, then you are out of warranty.
