Sears Informative - Sears Refrigerator - Refrigerator Warranty Repair Service
MOBERLY, MISSOURI -- The Moberly MO Sears store installed a Sears Elite top mount refrigerator on July 8, 2006. I paid $1200. It was a piece of junk from the beginning. All the plastic edges of the shelves cracked within the first year. I did not use the appliance for anything unusual. In the fourth year of service the piece of junk started freezing food in the refrigerator compartment. On Feb. 17, 2011, the thing quit cooling. We got out the users manual and restarted the refrigerator as the Manual directed. It worked for a while. The next day it was obvious the appliance would not cool. Temperature in the cabinet was approaching 60 degrees F. The Manual said the cooling unit was warranted for 5 years. The thing would not be 5 years old until July. We called the Sears Service. We got someone located who knows where. They said they would send a repair person in a week. The charge would be $65 for the call. They would fix it for $300 ( even though they did not know what was wrong with it. ) For that outrageous cost, they would give us a new warranty. I vowed never to buy anything from Sears again. I was ready to go to Lowes in Moberly and buy a new refrigerator. We called Waynes Appliance in Moberly.
They fixed the thing the same day for about $100 including the service call. Bless Waynes Appliance. I won't deal with Sears again. I am convinced the appliance is programmed to fail just before the warranty expires as a ruse to sell a new warranty. They are rip off artists. No more Sears.
