Nice review, Maggie. All people can ask for these days is an airline doing what they are supposed to and doing it right. Southwest seems to be much better at it than most airlines.

Alain, respectfully I have to disagree with you..... airlines do for the most part do what they are supposed to do and do it right. Legacy carriers (Delta, American, US Airways etc) are much more complex providing essential service to small cities and have large international networks. According to the DOT who keep such metrics Southwest statistically does not do things better than most airlines. So it is a question of optics, and Southwest underperforms given they do not have any of the noted complexities.

Bete, Based on my personal experiences and what I've seen and heard Southwest does seem to do the job they are supposed to do better than other carriers. I don't really care if larger airlines have more complexities. It's their problem to deal with it. I only want an airline to get me where I want to go with as few problems as possible. Your point is a good one, though.

Bete, as passengers we pay the Legacy carriers more to do the "complex" things that SW has managed to do with lower airfares. I fly SW and love it. I have flown the major airlines to the same places and have had nothing but problems.
