Spirit Airlines Complaint - Bad Planning on Connections
MIRAMAR, FLORIDA -- I didn't believe what others had written until I experienced it myself.
Spirit's connection time of 1 hour and 10 minutes coming from Bogota, Colombia to Ft. Lauderdale with a connection to Washington, DC is simply unrealistic (maybe all other int'l connections, too). I even paid the $18 per seat assignment to ensure an upfront seat, carried only one overhead luggage bag (to save the time of having to wait for bags to arrive at arrival) -- AND the flight was even 35 minutes early to arrive from BOG to FLL. When I arrived at Immigration and the line was out the door and would have easily missed my connection -- even with all these time saving measures! I asked politely to cut half the line and then just made it to the gate on time.
What really made me angry was that on my way down from Washington to FLL to BOG the previous Saturday -- Feb. 12. My wife was in a wheel chair -- was going back from BOG to FLL to DCA on the flight I came on. There were a series of issues that kept the flight from leaving on time and she missed the connection from FLL to DCA.
The FLL staff found her a hotel with a $25 taxi voucher -- but the taxi cost $60 each way! We both agree that we'll be hard pressed to fly Spirit internationally ever again. I'd rather pay the additional $200 or more (no baggage or seat fees -- and real food (albeit airline food) with Avianca'sdirect flight or with American Airlines that has several Miami to DC connections. I was so stressed out the entire time I was in Bogota which was supposed to have been a fun 4-day trip. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Maybe I'll consider Spirit for direct domestic flights.
