Review by josemi on 2011-02-27
ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- After settlement, Americredit refuses to give the car 's title. Final payment made but I am serious hardship to get my car title. The customer services from Americredit is really horrible.

Are they giving you any reason why they're not giving you the title?
Posted by madconsumer on 2011-02-27:
how many weeks have passed since the vehicle was paid off?

what was the settlement?

do you have proof its paid off? like a statement or letter from them that says its paid in full? if so go to the DMV in your city and request a new title with their name removed. show them the letter of proof pay $10 or whatever the fee is for the duplicate title and your done.

A few more details would be very helpful. How are they "refusing" to give you the title? What attempts have you made to communicate with them, and what happened?

By "settlement" do you mean the final payment, or was there some issue with this loan prior to it being paid off?

Does 'settlement' mean you paid less than what was originally borrowed on the loan? I don't know the legalities of what that could mean. What does your paperwork say about final payment of the settlement?

Someone might be able to advise you on what your best next step would be, if you give a little more detail as to why they will not hand the title over to you.

How long has it been since you paid off / setttled your loan? Their website states it can take up to 30 days after your final payment, to get your title or as your State Law allows:

Question:
I have paid off my account. When will I get my title?

Answer:
You will typically receive your title within 30 days after your account is paid in full, or as required by state law. If you have not received the title within 30 days, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-284-2271.

Americredit is located off of I-20 and Matlock Roads in Arlington. I believe the main building is the one closest to I-20. Monday morning I would be there when they arrive at 08:00 and ask to see someone in person. That would be the best way to handle your situation since you live in the same town as Americredit.

Americredit has indeed the worst customer service. My car is paid in full since may. They claim that they sent me the title. They never did.Tax collector's office is charging me twice to get the title under my name only. They say I need to get a duplicate.Americredit is refusing to get me one, claiming the title got lost and it is not their folt.
