Airport Marina Ford Complaint - Customer Service - Car Repair

Review by scoobyk on 2011-02-27
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA -- The service manager is very concerned about customer satisfaction.

FMC knows that there are expected problems with the actuator and MECS pump but will not do a recall on these products.

FORD will NOT inform you of known potential problems.
For FORD 2005-07 owners, these parts are known to fail so get them checked out before the BtoB warranty expires.

1. MOTOR cooling system water pump pn# (5m6z8c419a) TSB
(Technical Service Bulletin ) # 07-25-12.
2. The Blend air door actuator applications pn# (8L8Z19E616E), will also probably need to be replaced.

The blend door problem is a common one, unfortunately. It may also be very expensive, as on some vehicles a lot of disassembly is required. There are metal aftermarket ones available for some cars, and shortcuts like cutting holes in the side of a plenum, etc. You don't want a dealer replacement IF it is the original material.

As far as the pump, have you gone to a second dealer for another estimate? If you want it repaired by a dealer, that is what I would do. Then I would go to Ford and complain about the first one, having both on paper. You stated "up to $1000". What was the actual estimate?

Try an independent mechanic. We found a good one where we live through AAA. The blend door fix wasn't cheap, but it was less than the dealer quoted. Trmn8r has some good ideas that I wish I'd know about before we had it repaired, although don't know if hubby would have had the time to do the fix. The blend door was failing way before 05-07 though.
