Target Complaint - Refused my check due to "no check history"
SPOKANE VALLEY, WASHINGTON -- I went to the Spokane Valley Target and saw a 40" Samsung TV I wanted to purchase. I also had a cart full of clothes for my son and a couple of Wii games. The cashier in electronics rang everything up and I wrote a check and handed the cashier my current drivers license which matched my check. My check was declined. The cashier told me I could call the number on the back of the check for the reason. Worried that something happened to my checking account; I called the number and was told that since I did not have a "check history at Target" with this account number, they would not be able to accept my check. They would accept a check from me for $100.00 and I could pay the addition $700.00 in cash. The person suggested that I write checks at Target for about 4 months and then they will take my full check. They did not offer to call and verify funds, hold the check for a week to make sure it cleared or anything else. So I drove to Best Buy, found the same TV, they price matched Target and they ran my check as ACH and it went through. I have never written a bad check in my life and my account has plenty of money in it. Typically I use my debit card but write checks for any big ticket items. I did not appreciate being treated like someone who would ever write a bad check. I sent Target an e-mail letting them know of my expierence and they only replied that I should show my drivers license; this tells me they didn't take my complaint seriously at all. Target lost a customer.
