Fairmont Hotels Complaint - Fairmont Devalues the Platinum Presidents Club
SAN FRANCISCO -- This is not intended as a slight to the San Francisco Fairmont in particular, but rather my dislike for Fairmont corporate, under which this property falls.
Why you ask? Well, I was trying to reach platinum level presidents club through the Fairmont loyalty program, and I learned that they GAVE AWAY 115 LIFETIME platinum memberships if you purchased a one night stay for 2K at the presidential suite in SF. I tried to get in on the purchase, but they shut the promo down saying it was a mistake, but they are still honoring the first 115 that bought. I think the Fairmont made a poor decision there, because it leaves a real bad taste in my mouth to know I would have to stay 30 nights to achieve this status, but these other folks are getting it instantly, and for LIFE. I am taking my substantial vacation budget elsewhere from now on. Would I feel different if I was one of the lucky 115? Probably, but I still think they should NOT have honored the deal - they are trying to save face with 115 Thrifty minded folks who will most likely take advantage of the free night per year and suite upgrade, but not provide substantial revenue beyond a few dining dollars.
Now they have pissed off a lot of current platinum loyalty folks who may have spent upwards of 20K to reach this level. Foolish.
