Air New Zealand Complaint - Air Fare Change Rip Off - Most Fares Except For The Really Expensive Option

Most Fares Except For The Really Expensive Option - Complaint
Review by dcart on 2011-03-06
The booking was a Tran Tasman Fare.--Economy Fare. The option was the Seat Meal and 23kg Baggage.-----2nd to highest fare.

I understood that there would be no refund, although when re-booking this fare Air Nz required a $100 each way re booking fee. This I feel is a rip off as I gave them 3 week notice of the change. The Air Nz said I should have taken the Insurance that they offered.

I fail to understand how they can charge this penalty-the cost of a single fare. When booking the Seat, even though I paid for a premium option, I only had a choice of one seat. If I had booked the cheapest option the choice was 10 seats. The explanation was that due to a customer survey, the people who did not choose the meal option did not want to sit next to someone who had purchased the meal!!!!!!

Air NZ you are quickly becoming the EASYJET, RYAN AIR, of the south Pacific.

It seems as if lots of airlines are charging chage fees. I'm inclined to agree with you that it doesn't make much sense when there's reasonable advance notice but that's the way it is.

$100 doesn't sound bad. I paid $150 for a US domestic flight.

Change fees are routine. SWA doesn't have them in the US, but I thing they are an anomaly. You have every right to complain, but the terms should have been made available at the time of purchase. Somewhere in the fine print.

I think you will find that most airlines in the world charge change fees on everything but their most expensive fares. The discounted price is at the expense of refunds or free changes.
