American Airlines Complaint - Changing Tickets...total scam
I purchased a round-trip ticket for $350 plus all of the junk fees and insurance. I was led to believe that the insurance was through American, but it is apparently another company with American in the name. Who knows. My son was hospitalized 5 days before my flight and the doctor said he would still be in the hospital. I contacted American to cancel my flight and they said they don't cancel, they hold your reservation for a year and you can redeem it at a later date for a $150 fee. Nice little scam they have going there, as if it costs them $150 to hold that seat. I called today to change the tickets and the $150 became $1400. They want me to pay $1400 on top of the $350 I paid for the original tickets. Unbelievable. I will NEVER fly American again. I should have stuck with Delta. I understand that they don't want people changing tickets at the drop of a hat, but they have no concern for emergencies or their customers. Ten years ago, an airline would have cared. These circumstances are beyond my control and I can verify them. My mother is having radiation and needs my help so I still need to make the trip, but on the original date, my 6-year-old was in the hospital with pnemonia. It's amazing how little care their is for customers in the airline industry. Next time, I drive.
