BB&T Complaint - Dirty Bank Polices - Checking

Checking - Complaint
Review by littleman66 on 2011-03-20
POLK CITY, FLORIDA -- I went to my bank BB and T on Friday and cashed a check. I hadn't cashed any checks since the following Monday anyway the teller check availability of funds and cashed my check then on Saturday they charged me an overdraft fee on the check I CASHED AT THEIR BANK FOR LACK OF FUNDS.

The money was there on Friday enough to cash the check so how did it disappear on Saturday so that they could charge me an overdraft fee they cheated me out of my money to make a gain.

This is weird. Are you sure when you cashed the check, that they didnt place a hold on your available funds to cover the check? If you used your debit card and didnt have the available funds to cover any charges, thats where the OD charges came from.

The check may not have been processed until 11pm or midnight, when all the items on your account were processed for the day. An debit card or ACH may have rolled out prior to this, other checks may have come in after the the one you cashed, and been placed ahead of the one.

You need to contact the bank during the hours that they can help, and get an explanation.

If you keep a check register you would know exactly how much money you have in your account at all times. When you bank by balance checking, you're bound to make a mistake.

I've always kept a check register and have never done online banking as many do to check balances. I don't pretend to understand the system but too many folks make a deposit to later discover the deposit was held for x number of days. I guess my point is check register or not it won't do you a lick of good if your deposits aren’t posted for a period of days.

You need to talk with them before posting here. First, did you possibly buy gas on your debit card that day or before? Secondly, did perhaps any automatic debts hit that night?

Could have been any of the above, or a simple bank error. Just ask them, it might be.
