Rent 2 Own Complaint - Over Priced Used Computer

Review by rev.wmmeadows321 on 2011-03-21
In the past 2 months I have got 6 computers from Rent 2 Own and every one of them was faulty either keys missing or keys didn't work or missing programming. And the last on started smoking I contacted Rent 2 Own and they switched me from manager to asst manager. And I contacted home office no response from them either I'm paying $129 a month for 16 months for used computer and now I'm out 2 weeks cause they won't do any thing.

Its been week now since I contacted them and still nothing.

You could buy a good new computer for half the price you are paying Rent-2-Own. I found P505's for $796. Rent-2-Own is never an economical choice.

$129 a month times for maybe... 4 months, and you can buy a decent laptop. In the interim, use your public library to stay connected. The sacrifice will pay off VERY WELL in the long run.

The last complaint, and replies, I saw about this company were almost identical. And that was over a year ago.

It sounds like the best thing to do is avoid Rent To Own unless it is the very last choice.

Any of those rent-to-own places are just bad, even predatory. They count on those with bad or no credit, having to come to them as a last resort. Then if you carry the rental to ownership, you've spent way more than had you purchased one new. It's sleazy, in my opinion. Just save the $129 a month. Within 2 or 3 months, you'll have enough to purchase a decent computer from one of the deal-a-day sites like Woot.

Rent to own is just out to make a profit. They don't care what they sell you, if it breaks or isn't up to par, nor do they care if you can't afford it. My brother bought me a 500 dollar laptop on cyber monday from amazon, normally worth 700. Computers are a lot cheaper to find now a days than ever before. Figure thats about a few months worth of payments...And its much better than anything i can get in that store. Its just way too pricey.

I suggest maybe saving up for a few months, then splurge. I went without internet for a good year before i got a computer. It was a hassle but glad i own mine!
