H&R Block Complaint - HR Block Emerald Debit Card - Rip Off

Rip Off - Complaint
Review by 2011sunshine39 on 2011-03-28
We got our taxes on this card well it was going really well and started our direct deposit done good so far then one morning got up to see how much was on my card and it was over $100.00 Amount so went to gas station to get gas. Went into store my card decline so went call the company really rude said there was a glinch in tech and computer and they would have it fix with in a hour so I ask them what am I suppose to do about paying for my gas she and he said I would have to wait until the computer was fixed. So we waited no fix had to call my parents to pay for my gas so call them back told them what happen they acted like they didn't even care.

So do not use this card they do not care about their customers at all and they are a rip off and didn't even care I was stranded and it took 8 hours instead of one hour. Sorry company.

Things happen. I would suggest having another source of payment than just relying on one card. What did you really expect them to do? Hand you cash through the phone?

Always have a $20 bill hidden in your wallet for such emergencies. I would of never let H&R Block do my taxes in the first place yet alone get the refund put on a debit card. There is not much anyone can do when there are computer issues. Don't use debit cards.

Not only would I not have H&R Block do my taxes, but I would never have them put my tax refund on a their debit card. Those things are loaded with fees!

throwback, the $20 bill concept sounds great. In most cases today that $20 bill ain't gonna resolve a debt problem at a gas station.

well what Im confused about, is every gas station Ive ever been to, you have to prepay before you pump, either insert your CC and get approved, or go inside and pay cash. Most states, thats the law.

Prince, There are still places that let you pump first then pay later. I ran across one the week before last in backwoods Arkansas ( what part isn't backwoods I know). It freaked me out. There was no card reader at the pump. While looking for the card reader I noticed people just pulling up an pumping. When in Rome. It felt so WRONG.

Well, I would be very leary about doing that unless I had the cash in hand. You never know what could happen, the card reader may not be working, maybe your card expired, or just wont go through for whatever reason. I would hate to be stuck there and SOL until someone could come save me.

Roth, interesting also, I've walked into them in AR and no one was around, got what I wanted went to the counter waited a minute and here comes the clerk apologizing for having to go to the bathroom.

Most of the stations in Wisconsin let you pump, then pay.

I pay at the pump. If I stay outside, I'm not likely to buy...hot dogs...donuts...pop(I AM from Wisconsin, you know)...chips....

Small, rural towns are different and no one that even lived in one can believe the way things go there. I got to the counter at the local Sheetz in my hometown (where I haven't lived in years) with my coffee and a newspaper and realized my wallet was not in my purse. The clerk, who didn't know me, took my name and number and told me I could stop in and pay when I came back into town later in the day. BTW in Western PA, we also call it pop.
