Spirit Airlines Complaint - Avoid it like the plague
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA -- The little bit we saved on airfare by choosing this terrible airline ended up costing us a lot of money. My son had to travel at a date different from the one on his ticket. Instead of allowing him to pay a fee to change the date, Spirit Airlines told him he had to buy a new ticket and that he could call the customer service number to request credit for the unused portion of the original ticket. When my son called (after he had completed his trip), he was told that they would not issue any credit for the flight he missed.
On a separate incident, during a 5-hour international flight, my brother and his daughter were not even offered water. The reservation asked if they had a meal preference, which was very deceiving. Then there was a problem with the daughter's return and she had to travel back by herself. Spirit Airlines does not allow minors to travel unnacompanied. Therefore, they had to purchase a ticket with another airline (Delta) which was very accommodating and helpful.
Spirit Airlines usually has the lowest air fares. But be ware that the little bit you save can end up costing you lots of headaches and money. Once the money is in their pockets, they don't care.
