ACN Complaint - Waste of money! - Home Video Phone

Home Video Phone - Complaint
Review by bubbyboo on 2011-04-01
MONTREAL, QC, H3B3K3 CANADA -- Hi,
Let me explain to you the awful experience I have had with this company (ACN)...
I purchased a video phone back in September of 2010, costing $250.
I bought it so that my family that live in a different province to us could see my new born baby.
Since having the phone I have had nothing but complaints from my friends and relatives about the connection. Here are some of the complaints:
1. Very bad Echo.
2. Beeping noises.
3. Hard to hear, sounds like I'm calling from Timbuktu!
4. I will be having a conversation for 10 minutes or so and suddenly be cut off from the person I was talking to and a voice comes onto my speaker phone saying 'The number you have dialed is not in service' (Kinda weired when I had just been speaking to the person).
and so on.....
I have made calls to ACN regarding these faults/problems at least 5 times. I would call more, but I have a newborn baby to care for so its hard for me to spend 1-2 hours on the phone with ACN trying to figure out the problem.
Every time I call, they get me to go to my computer and run tests to see if there is a problem with my Internet. After doing this (every time I call), they agree that its not my Internet that's the problem. Still nothing gets resolved.
I final got transferred to customer service as the technician said there was nothing else he could do.
After spending another hour or more on the phone to the customer service representative she informs me the only thing they can offer me is to change my phone to a land line. I told her that was not what I wanted, I wanted a video phone for a reason...so that my family could see my baby. I asked more than 5 times for ACN to send me a replacement phone and I would send back the faulty one. She denied me!.I was appalled with the lack of care and concern that she had therfore I requested that she cancel my service.
Not only would she not replace my faulty phone, she then informs me that I would have to pay half the cancellation fee which would be $170. The woman had me to tears. I am a stay at home mother with a small income and don't have $170 to hand out that easily.
In any case, my question to her is 'why should I pay a cancellation fee for something that you people at ACN can't resolve, and why are you not refunding me my $250 for a phone that clearly isn't working as you advertise?
I obviously told her how disgusted I was and that I'm appalled with the way this has been handled. I asked her 4 times to put me through to her supervisor and after informing me that she was the supervisor I asked to speak to the manager, she said she couldn't do that.
I am absolutely furious with ACN. Listen to me people....
... My rights as a consumer indicates that you legally have to reimburse me for the 'Faulty' phone!!! And how dare you try and charge me for a cancellation fee for something that isn't my fault...its yours!!!!
ACN is a disgrace as far as I'm concerned and I don't ever want to deal with them again! SHAME ON YOU! for putting me through this.

I am sorry you are going through this but may I ask why you would buy such an outdated piece of equipment? You obviously have a computer so why on earth would you buy a video phone, under contract, no less, when for $20-$30 you could of bought a webcam and used skype for FREE and without a contract? My inlaws recently started selling ACN video phones and wireless services and tried to get everyone in the family to buy their outdated video phones! I told them straight up that the video phone is way outdated (my neighbors had one in the 80s!!!!) and why should I buy a $200 phone, sign a contract and have to install a landline when my macbook has a built in webcam and I can use skype to talk to my parents in Reno FOR FREE? I can also use "facetime" on my iphone to "video chat" with other iphone used and I believe there is an app called Tango thats lets iphone users video chat with blackberrys and androids!

Well miss Samantha, The ACN video phone includes unlimited long distance to the places that I call (mostly Ontario and England). They charge $30 per month, whereas any other phone company charge at least $52 per month for the same features (minus being able to see the person while talking to them), so as you can now understand, the reason for me buying this phone was to save money and have a connection with my long distance relatives. Some of my family in England dont have a video phone so obviously I Skype with them using my webcam but unfortunately as many Skype users will agree with...the webcam connection often fails or sometimes doesnt work at all, therefore, I thought this Video phone with ACN would solve all my problems. We were going to give it a trial run and if it went well my family in England were going to also buy a video phone. As you can probably tell...thats not going to happen now. Its more the company that Im unhappy with. Im saddened by the way they have handled everything. If you buy a product from a store and you take it home to find that its faulty, wouldnt you take it back and expect a full refund, or do you let them take advantage of you and just suck up the $250???

I'm in Toronto.I have exactly the same experience as bubbyboo. It is kind of the same story. A lot of technical problems and at the end a HUGE problem with the cancelation. I think I called them no less than 50 times when I was trying to solve some of the technical issues and now it is a PAIN the cancelation process. I think they do everything posible not to honor their promise and charge you every penny for cancelation and "service usage". Dealing with this company has been a NIGHTMARE, honestly.

From a SELLING Prospective:

I went to an information meeting with someone the other night. I already knew that there was some thing shady about it but went anyway.

Shocked and saddened at how many people and YOUNG ones at that have been sucked into the "Build your own business and get rich off your bills scenario." Oh - it would take up to 5 yrs before you'd see a decent profit from your $500 investment. -

Right away I got the impression that it was a "Pyramid" or uh- MLM business as they like to refer themselves as.

When I heard "Video phones" I quickly thought "WHO's gonna buy one of those??"

Anyway, I'm sad that people allow themselves to become brainwashed into such things..

The only people who get rich quick are the people you give your credit card number or cash to so you can start up your very own business.

Incidentally, if you are starting up your OWN business then why would they ask you to fill out a job application..??

Sorry to those of you who where ripped off by them.
