Cadillac Complaint - Bulb installation costs - 2005 Cad srx. running light bulb

2005 Cad srx. running light bulb - Complaint
Review by farmgoats on 2011-04-05
STANLEYTOWN, VIRGINIA -- Running light was out; went to Cad. dealer to get replaced. The bulb costs $4.50 & I was charged $117.00 labor to install the bulb. I think this is not only ridiculous, but highway robbery. Now my signal light is out (same side); I called & they said the costs would be same to install this bulb. I asked if the new SRX's would costs that; I was told YES. Looks like I need to change manufacturers; I also have a '04 Cad. Deville; I wonder what costs would be for it?? I even contacted GMC & didn't get any help at all or explanation from them either. I am very upset about this labor charge.

You couldn't replace them yourself or know someone that could?

What a rip off indeed!

PS Cadillacs are expensive to repair and maintain.

Relative to other GM cars, yes.

a car dealer has a labor factor of $100 per hr. Certain things you shouldn't go to a dealer for. A quick lube place would have changed your bulbs for a few dollars or lots of auto parts places would have helped you out. Save the dealer for major repairs or find yourself an honest independent garage. The labor had nothing to do with it being GM or a Cadillac.

I helped my uncle replace a bulb out in a Cadillac before. It is way more labor intensive than on a regular car. The price is still pretty high, maybe half of it would make sense.

Replacing bulbs on some cars can be quite a chore these days. I seem to recall that on one model, you have to take the tire or bumper off to get to the headlight bulb.

For something like a light bulb, personally I wouldn't pay a dealer to do it. I understand the concept that the dealer would be the most likely to know the procedure, but they charge outrageous labor.

I live in Maryland; for $117, I'll drive to Virginia and change it for you

In most cases you either get to the bulb from under the hood, inside the trunk or by removing the framing where the light goes.
A tire or bumper, Termn8tr? No way!!

I replaced a headlight in my mom's Jeep Cherokee and I had to take the battery out to get to it.

Under the hood just as I stated.

Lsalvador -> yes, I am aware of the location in most cars. It may have been a New Beetle, or something like that.
