Kraft Foods North America, Inc. Complaint - Chemical box taste of Kraft Mac & cheese - Kraft Macaroni & Cheese dinner

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese dinner - Complaint
Review by magnus4d on 2011-04-05
Not sure what Kraft did to the original Macaroni & Cheese dinner, s but with the new box design came a horrible new taste! It smells odd when the "cheese" mix is added, and tastes like a combination of cardboard and chemicals. Kraft can write "original Flavor" all over the box if it makes them happy, but it doesn't make it so! Whatever was done to cheapen up the product just lost you a 40 year loyal customer, along with everyone else I'm telling about how awful the taste is now.

I havn't noticed any change and I eat it all the time too. Maybe you bought a bad batch or something or maybe one of the workers fell off a catwalk into one of the mixers.

Add some extras to it: cheese, jalapenos, tuna, peas, etc

The blue box mac and cheese where you add butter? It has tasted like crap to me for at least 5 years now. I can't bare to eat the stuff.

it tastes like a combination of cardboard and chemicals because it IS a combination of cardboard and chemicals! :)

Old Cheese Sauce:
Modified Milk Ingredients, Cheese (Milk, Bacterial Culture, Cream, Salt, Microbial Enzymes, Lipase, Calcium Chloride, Colour), Salt, Sodium Phosphates, Citric Acid, Flavour, Color (Contains: Tartrazine) Sorbic Acid.

New Cheese Sauce:
Cheese (Milk, Bacterial Culture, Salt, Cream, Lipase, Microbial Enzymes, Calcium Chloride, Colour), Modified Milk Ingredients, Salt, sodium Phosphates, Colour (Contains Tartrazine), Flavour, Citric Acid.

The lists look the same, but the changing of the order suggests that they've changed the base to a different, (presumably cheaper,) type of cheese. This could be Kraft's way of keeping the price of KD low in the face of rising food costs.

I believe this was looked into some months ago when people complained of a chemical smell ... it had something to do with the boxes. But, I can't remember what it was they said about it...I'm sure if you Google it, you'll find some info.

I'm glad we're not alone. We were starting to think our milk or butter was bad. We made two boxes, the second box made with new milk and butter, and it tasted the same as before. The kids won't even eat it! I think I'll just stick to making my own from now on.

look people, mac and cheese has always been a low end crappy product marketed towards people with no time to make real food, and it always will be.

I noticed the box smells funny wondered if it was the new color dyes used in making the box and transferring to the product? If you buy the single boxes it taste like it did before the box change I think because the plastic is not holding 5 boxes together with the dye smell "locked in". All that said it does not taste good anyway. Get a few bags of dry Macaroni and some Velveeta and make your own or any cheese other than Kraft Have you noticed a lot of foods taste funny? best food mayo taste funny for awhile now what are these places putting in our foods? I wish I could buy all farm grown and not have to buy from our government with all the poisons they add no wonder people are so ill look at wheat it has not been the same for 50yrs! most people can not eat the foods of today I'm in my mid forty's and now have trouble with my health and not much food is digestible to me but not many choices for a diet most food does not get along I have to eat something even if I get wheat belly sometimes.

I know that this thread started a while ago, and hopefully you know by now, but Senomyx is the company responsible for the new and unimproved bad taste of Kraft products. They utilize human embryonic cells to test artificial flavors due to the speed and efficiency of the method compared to sampling methods conducted by market research with real food and real people. The new flavor is not a flavor at all, but a flavor enhancer targeting the human taste of umami--the fifth taste aside from salty, bitter, sweet, and sour. The additive is in such small quantities that is does not need to be added to the ingredient list. The current FDA regulations therefore are limited in scope, as this "enhancer" doesn't need to be tested in the same manner as other food additives and can only be investigated to a point where is is generally recognized as safe. Do some more research on Senomyx, Kraft, excitotoxins, and flavor enhancers and I guarantee you will want to fight the good fight with me and completely restructure your diet to whole and natural foods. Cancer can be blamed on smoking, water quality, and genetics, but when you take a look at all the chemicals we take in from packaged foods, you might start to see how corporate America has been lying and lobbying to keep us in the dark and their pockets full.

I wrote back on 9-17-12. I have been buying dry mac and making my own mac and cheese without Kraft products. Mayo tastes weird also as I had said, all Kraft is weird I do not support this company they have not figured out how to slip us the crud in our foods like other company's without us tasting it. If you like the box idea there are many store brands that taste good without the chemical flavor.
