Direct Buy Complaint - Giant Rip Off - Membership

CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE -- We were very foolish to swallow Direct Buy's fast talking presentation of
how much money we could save on hundreds of products. We had/have plans for major appliance purchases, as well as other items.
The "joining" fee was $5000.00, and now we have received a membership "renewal" notice of $150.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine our anger.
Of course, the fine print of the contract included this little item, as they must cover their behinds.
Every month, when we make a payment toward the joining fee, we are so sorry we make the decision to join this company. Think long and hard before you agree to hear their fast talking presentation, and then rushed to join THAT DAY. No time to think about it. Join that day, or go away and don't come back. We consider ourselves to be informed, careful consumers. However, this contract was stupid.

Belonging to a buying group and not being a retailer never made much sense to me. It seems so hard to effectively make up the dues amounts to make it worth it.

I'm with Slim on this one it doesn't make sense to me either. Howevery I would love to sit through one of their high pressure sales pitches. I get a kick out of that.

Direct Buy is for people who remodel every 2 years, or for those in the interior decorating business. For everyone else, I think it's a big ripoff.

I agree it's a big ripoff. But I don't understand how people can't figure out that even if they saved some money, they wouldn't come out ahead after paying for a $5000 membership.

Let's see. Someone or a group of people talked you into giving them $5000 and into signing a contract. Your choice. I would like to have empathy for you but no one forced you to do anything. Did you hear that negotiating appliances and furniture still exists? Did you hear of the Internet? Sorry for the sarcasm but you put it out to the world.

I think we probably all have had that... well, maybe, we should of thought about this a little longer. I know, I have.
I've purposely left all payment options at home and just took emergency cash with me... that we I can't be rushed to make a decision right away.

DirectBuy: I investigated one of your stores for a membership. What I got was a hard sell, forced to watch a video and not allowed to ask any questions until the sales presentation was over. Your insanely high ripoff membership plus other fees is a joke. Then there is the "fine print" that makes this a truly horrible value for the customer. Your post was taken directly from your "cheat sheet" just as Sears Cares does. Members on this site are well informed and not buying it.

I buy all my appliances at Sears and furniture at a local family owned furniture store and I didn't have to pay $5000 to shop at either one.
