Jeld-Wen Complaint - Warped Front Door - Prefinished Wood Exterior Door

Prefinished Wood Exterior Door - Complaint
Review by phaunf on 2011-04-18
I've never been more disappointed in a company as I have Jeld-Wen. I spent $5,000 for my front door and side lights. I fought my builder to get this door and I'm sorry I did. The first winter the door warped. It cupped so much that it actually does not sit flush against the door frame. When it is windy outside, I can actually put my hand up by the door and feel the breeze and the snow coming into the house! When I called the Jeld-Wen rep, they came out and said that it was "within the company parameters of accceptable" and that it should straighten back out in the summer. Great! Apparently, I should be happy with my door 6 months out of the year! I was not expecting this type of response. I was expecting the company to replace my door. I will NEVER again buy so called "quality" from this company again. They DO NOT stand behind their product. Their service is horrible and their quality is unacceptable.

A warped door is not going to straighten out in the summer. If it's just a matter of cold air, the door can be weatherproofed, but if snow is coming in, that door is pretty bent out of shape!

Did the door come with any kind of warranty? If so, you should read it carefully to see what your options are. If I spent $5,000 on a door and it warped that badly, I would not just accept it, even if it meant going to small claims court.

Do you live in an area that is subject to cold and wet weather much? Doors shouldn't warp, but the jambs tend to swell.
Where I live it is common for door jambs to expand and contract with the changing seasons.

Is this an entry door? There are specifications that have to be met with over hangs that your builde\\should have followed. If the door is a swinging door and not IWP and past 1/4" I would argue it. If it is an IWP with no overhang that's your builders issue. 1/4" is industry standard

I have double doors..the fancy raised wood look Jeld Wen doors. Have had them maybe 7 years. One is warped badly and steadily getting worse. I spoke with JeldWen Rep (located in Canada I believe)...he said nothing he could do. I am so disappointed, spent 9k and have to replace them alredy. They are really beautiful doors. I live in Michigan, so I guess they should not be sold here. Customer "service" is bad news.
