Fidelity Investments Complaint - Fidelity Investments Poor Customer Service - Investment withdrawal

Investment withdrawal - Complaint
Review by loblaz on 2011-04-27
DALLAS, TEXAS -- ON 4/11/11 at approximately 3:30 P.M. I called Fidelity to request a withdrawal. I was told a check would go out in the US mail on 4/13/11. When I had not received it 5 business days later on the 18th, I called and was told it could take up to 7 days for the check to arrive.

Called again on the 19th since I have never had to wait 7 days for US mail. I requested they stop payment on the original check and send a replacement by overnight mail. Was told by Fidelity that the check would be sent out on 4/20 and I would have it in hand on the 21st. Check did NOT ARRIVE on the 21st. When I called Fidelty again, I was told that their customer service representative had set "unrealistic expectation" by telling me I would have check on the 21st. The check had not been sent but would be put in over night mail on the 21st to arrive on the 22nd. I requested a tracking # and was told that a tracking number would not be availalbe until 11:00 A.M. on the 22nd. I called on the 22nd to get the tracking # only to be informed that there offices were closed on the 22nd!! I did get the check late afternoon on the 22nd, but I fully intent to move my money out of Fidelity. I should not have to wait two weeks to get my own money?

Did you ever receive the original check, and if so, on what date? You didn't wait 5 business days if it was sent on the 13th and you called on the 18th.

I find it odd that the second check to be delivered overnight was said to be unrealistic, but they turned around and did exactly that when given another chance.

I don't know about Fidelity, but I banked with another large and respected investment firm for many years, and obtaining withdrawal checks usually took about a week.

A lot of businesses closed on the afternoon of April 22, which was Good Friday.

As trmn8r pointed out, April 13 to 18 is not "5 business days". April 16 and 17 were Saturday and Sunday, so those don't count. April 15 was some kind of special holiday, too--even the IRS gave us a break on filing tax returns.

I hope you have received your check(s) by now.
