Ashley Furniture Complaint - Poor product and service
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- My husband and I purchased a breakfast table and 4 chairs from Ashley Furniture in Houston in June 2010. By Christmas, the stain on the top of the table was starting to come off. Also, the chairs had a pungent smell that took us a while to realize the odor we kept smelling was from the chairs. We have older teenagers not young children and the table and chairs received normal use. When I realized the table was under warranty, Ashley sent a service writer out. He was pleasant but not overly friendly. He told me the table looked like the stain was not sealed strong enough to withstand slight cleaning of the table. He smelled the chairs, hesitantly, and clearly had a sour look on his face when he realized they smelled too. I asked him what he thought the remedy would be and he said he thought it was a manufacturer defect and I would get a new table. He told me that Ashley would call me in a week or so with the remedy. They didn't call and when I called the customer service representative told me the service writer reported that it was customer damage due to water and they would not be giving me a new table. When I asked what about the chairs, she agreed he wrote up that the chairs smelled but we bought it in June so that was just normal use. They would not send out a second service writer for a second opinion even though the table and chairs are still under the one year warranty. The service writer never gave me any indication that he thought I caused the table to be damaged. I think this is just standard protocol for them and that is why he wasn't overly nice to me. I had my doubts about buying furniture from this store but it was the only table I found that would fit our breakfast area. I wish I would have researched the company more and seen all the bad reports. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY AND DO NOT LET YOUR FRIENDS BUY EITHER!
