Facebook Complaint - Friend Request Has Been Blocked For 14 Days

Complaint
Review by bigred271 on 2011-05-06
Because I sent out some friend requests on Facebook I was blocked for 14 days they said sending requests to strangers is considered spam well how are you supposed to meet new people and make new friends if you cannot send the a friend request. Some of the friend requests I sent out was people I know and some was familly something needs to be done about this I never had this problem with Myspace or bebo or twitter or h-5.

If Facebook does not correct this problem soon then I'm going to sue them.

"well how are you supposed to meet new people and make new friends"

Go play outside.

What UNS said.

A sad tale to say the least.

Sue them because they are enforcing their TOS? Good luck with that.
How did you make friends before Facebook, My Space, et al?

I'm not sure what you will sue them for, since it's a free site, that you use with your own free will, but good luck with your lawsuit.

The reason they have that rule is to protect it's members. A lot of people don't like getting lots of random requests, like MySpace allowed.

If a person gets a friend request from someone they don't know (or don't like for whatever reason), they have the option to tell FB that they don't know that person. I would guess that if enough "stranger danger" tags were linked to a person in a relatively short period of time, they would be concerned that the person in question is a spammer and would want to block that person until the matter was cleared up. It doesn't matter if some of those people were people that you know. If enough strangers say that they don't know you, of course you're going to get blocked.

When someone gets a friend request, they can report/block that person. Clutzy hit the nail on the head I believe

When You send to many friend requests that is like spamming. You should only send friend requests to those you know or those who would be ok with it not strangers.

Is the problem really the excessive friend requests, or that these requests are being denied frequently? I think the latter is why Facebook blocks requesting temporarily.

Facebook isn't supposed to be for making new friends.

And I have to ask the same question as others - what will you sue them for? It's a free service!

I'll be your friend, BigRed.

Basher, don't you want REAL friends? Ones that exist off of the computer

good review. I was just curious .. Do you play any of the zynga games like farmville/cityville/front... and so on? Because most of these require neighbor interaction and I know zynga encourages adding more and more people. Anyways there is nothing with meeting new people anywhere, they have start somewhere.

I have plenty of those Shorty.

I'm just going to have to reiterate what has already been said. You can't sue Facebook for enforcing rules meant to help protect people's privacy.
Second, Facebook is not really intended to meet new people. Facebook is intended to keep up friends and family.
I wouldn't accept a stranger's request because it's creepy and stalkerish. Also, it would be annoying to see someone's Facebook updates bury the updates of the people about whom I actually care.
I'm not saying that it's not appropriate to meet new people using online methods, I'm just saying it's inapproprate for Facebook. Unfortunately, the only suggestion I can offer is AOL chat rooms, but I honestly don't know if aol even exists anymore.

Prove it? What do you want me to do, post all of their phone numbers so you can call and ask?
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2011-05-06:
I've had a lot of friend request on my DB FB account, which I never use to post anything on...and I just decline them all because I don't know who they are...if they are M3C members, I wouldn't know without their NIC.

Yeah, this a great review. And by all means, let us know how that lawsuit pans out.

Don't break your shin on a stool that is not in your way.

What the others have said.... AND....

"I"m going to sue" doesn't mean you'll win... or that a lawyer will even take your case.

More importantly NO COURT will uphold your case. If they did then they would be saying that you have the right to harass and spam strangers for attention.

And no court would ever do that. They would, instead, uphold the rights of EVERYONE ELSE to be protected from spammers

"I never had this problem with Myspace or bebo or twitter or h-5."
They have different TOS agreements. Perhaps you should reread yours.

Goodluck with the lawsuit. Go for about 10million, that's pocket change for Marky boy.
