Skytel Complaint - Unhappy Skytel Experience

Review by Jim C on 2005-05-24
In February, I decided to get a pager. Skytel looked good as their prices were low and supposed the pager was included.

I should have been tipped off right away. When I called to order, they wanted my Social Security number. I said I thought that was unnecessary. They said that I didn't have to give it to them if I paid for a year in advance. I went ahead paid the year in advance because I didn't want to deal with paying the invoice every month anyway.

The pager arrived, and after I activated it, I started to receive all kinds of advertisements. I called support and asked them to stop sending them to me. They said that I would need a different pager to not get the ads!

So I had them send me a new pager. They wanted to charge me for the shipping, but I said that was ridiculous as the reason that I was sending it back was because they were including services that I didn't ask for and wasn't informed that I was going to get ahead of time. They said they wouldn’t charge me, but I received another charge on my credit card at that time anyway.

The new pager had a habit of beeping once in a while but not giving me a message. After a couple of months it started beeping constantly and I realized that the pager was defective.

So I called Alltel to have it repaired. They said it was under warranty but that I would have to handle it through Motorola! When I called the company that was handling the Motorola repairs, they said that I needed some information about the pager that was not on the pager itself. They suggested that I call Skytel to find the information.

That was it. I don't have time to run all this down. In my opinion, good service would have dictated that Skytel handle all this on my behalf. I called and canceled the account. Even though I had used 4 months of the service, they only refunded about half the money.
