Dish Network Complaint - Ripping off the American consumer
I run a small, nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter. I purchased a 2-yr contract with Dish Network to provide the shelter managers, 10/29/2009, t. v.. We fired them 3 mos later and they stole the receiver. The local small-town sheriff was uncooperative. Dish says the receiver is worth $400. We have been paying $27 per month for the past 15 months for nothing but air. We have had no service. We considered canceling after the receiver was stolen but it was an outrageous fee to cancel plus the cost of the receiver. The representative was not very nice either. On 5/16/11 I called again because I saw the monthly rate for nothing but air now became $53.35! I told them we wanted to cancel. We are stuck paying $53.35 for the past 2 months plus a $90 cancellation fee plus $400 for the stolen receiver. I asked the representative if they wouldn't just apply the months we had paid for nothing towards the receiver and she said they would not do that. She said they can't see whether we have service or not! Yes, we signed a contract but we have been paying for nothing received. DISH NETWORK rips off consumers, even those who provide a service to this society to help animals and people. They ought to be ashamed of themselves but when they are in it for the money, people don't count!
