L'Oreal USA, Inc. Complaint - Why Beyonce? - Haircolor

Haircolor - Complaint
Review by broomhilda123 on 2011-05-16
Please strongly consider hiring another spokesperson to replace Beyonce. She is obviously wearing a wig (black hair doesn't move like the wig or weave in the commercial) which is blonde! I found that odd that the company would hire this celebrity to advertise blonde hair dye when the vast majority of black women wouldn't dream of coloring their hair blonde. Loreal should hire a natural blonde brunette redhead etc to advertise hair color to make it believable and attractive. Beyonce is a beautiful woman but not a great spokesperson for this particular hair color. FYI. I'm black so please don't take this the wrong way as it's just my opinion. Thank you

Many African-American women do wear wigs or sport weaves, everyone I know personally does except for one old school girl who has a neat, natural 'fro. Remember cake cutters? They're considered a weapon now, lol. Have you sent this feedback to L'oreal?

What is a cake cutter?
Posted by ript on 2011-05-16:
A cake cutter is a large, sharp metal toothed comb with a long handle for big afros. People used to walk around with them sticking out of their hair. They are very dangerous.

A PICK!! Like with the fist on them!
Posted by MRM on 2011-05-16:
Think back to your high school days where you see them puffing their afros with the long tooth comb.

Like a pick, but not like the picks of today blue, the handle was off to the side, and the metal teeth were thick. They were banned.

I posted a pic of one on my blog blue. The ones I remember are more lethal looking than the one I found.

I've never seen one of those in my life. METAL teeth?? LOL!!

they hire models and color their hair with their products. they are advertising hair color, not natural hair colors.

I really don't have a problem with Beyonce advertising blonde hair. It isn't unusual for a Black woman to go blonde. I see it every day and it doesn't raise eyebrows or anything. What I object to is the fact that she is wearing a WIG. Did they use the color on the wig? I want to see someone who actually used the product. It reminds me of all of those mascara ads where the models are sporting obvious falsies.

BA madc. And as a side note, I've known lots of black women who dye their hair blonde.
Posted by MRM on 2011-05-16:
The review states that the majority of black women dont dye their hair blonde.
Posted by littleshorty on 2011-05-16:
That's the OP's assumption. That's not based on fact, unless the OP did a survey of every black woman in America, which I highly doubt
Posted by PepperElf on 2011-05-16:
Good point little - I've seen many women on my first ship who dyed their hair blond and red. I don't know how many wore wigs or extensions though, except one roommate.

And Mad is also very right ... you don't use people with uncolored hair to sell hair color.

I've seen them come off more men than women on that show.

I understand they hire models then color their hair for purposes of advertising and profit. My point is to hire models whose natural beauty is enhanced by the haircolor and thus make the ad believable.

You don't think Beyonce is beautiful as a blonde broomhilda?
Posted by broomhilda123 on 2011-05-16:
Beyonce became the worldwide superstar singer while with Destinys Child back when she was a brunette and was more beautiful then than now by far
Posted by bluediamond98 on 2011-05-16:
I like her blonde transformation - J-Lo too! What do you think of the blondes on the Dark & Lovely haircolor boxes?
Posted by broomhilda123 on 2011-05-16:
Well I can't comment about the ladies on the boxes you are referring to. It comes down to preference. It you want the blonde Beyonce or Cari Hilson look then knock yourself out. Again this is just my opinion.

I have skin fairer than Beyonces and green eyes. I dyed my hair not quite her color but close and received many compliments. I thought it washed me out so went back to med brown.

Why should they hire someone with naturally blond, brunette or red hair color to advertise hair *coloring*? That would make sense only for the segment of the population that colors their hair to retain its color. But there are many others, perhaps a majority, who are doing it to *change* the color.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think Beyonce looks good with the blond hair. It comes down to preference. How in the world are they going to find a model that everyone agrees is made more attractive when they use L'Oreal?
Posted by justcuz on 2011-05-17:
I think the crux of the OP's opinion about using Beyonce is that she is wearing a wig, not about a black woman going blond. I thought the same thing when I saw the ads...it doesn't make sense.
Posted by broomhilda123 on 2011-05-17:
8r. You are right. Beyonce looks great in her blonde weave/wig. I wonder if she would have agreed to make the commercial without a hairpiece after dying her own hair so bleach blonde! She most likely would lose most of it in handfuls! Again from a believability factor I don't think B is a great spokesperson for this particular color. As for hiring natural blondes redheads brunettes to promote haircolor I think again from a believeability factor to say hire a dirty blonde to promote a more enhanced or much lighter blonde haircolor so the models natural beauty is enhanced by the haircolor thus making it more attractive.

I was reading an article, how so many celebrities do not even use the products they endorse. They mentioned that woman, Florence Henderson, who used to advertise the product, Polident for dentures. It was mentioned she does not, nor has she ever worn dentures.

It's all about advertising.
Posted by Lsalvador on 2011-05-17:
That is true, Skye.

I thought it was so funny back when Tiger Woods was doing commercials for Buick.
