Spirit Airlines Complaint - Do Not Fly This Airline
MIRAMAR, FLORIDA -- My sister and I (2 young white females) booked tickets to Jamaica through Orbitz on 2/27/11. The returning flight was confirmed and paid for on same date and scheduled for May 9, 2011 leaving Montego Bay at 4:08 P.M. on Spirit Airlines.
After a great vacation, my sister and I arrived at the MBJ airport within 2 hours for our scheduled flight. Lo and behold and unbeknownst to us, THE FLIGHT NO LONGER EXISTED. In fact, MBJ airport workers made statements to the effect that "Spirit never leaves MBJ on Mondays, only Tuesdays".
MBJ airport members were nice enough to allow us to use a courtesy phone to call Spirit. I called and spoke to a man and then a supervisor, Ashley Miller. Ms. Miller initially informed me that the infomration about the flight being cancelled was incorrect. I was put on hold. Ms. Miller subsequently came on and confirmed not only was the flight cancelled, she alleged that they "notified" us of the flight cancellation on March 3, 2011. I explained to Ms. Miller that clearly this was not accurate as I was sitting at the MBJ airport on MAY 9th waiting to go home on my flight and had I received ANYTHING on March 3rd, I wouldn't have been here.
Ms. Miller was not helpful AT ALL. She basically told me there was nothing she or the airline could do for my sister and I, who were no essentially stranded in MBJ airport with no money (last day of vacation) and no place to stay (last day of vacation). She would not assist us with other airlines nor would she assist us with getting a place to stay. I finally ended the conversation with the understanding that she was "stranding" two young white females in the MBJ airport not only overnight but until 4pm the next day.
Fortunately, an American Airlines customer service person assisted us.
The only easy and good thing that came about is that Spirit arilines refuned our entire purchase price of the ticket within seven (7) days and no fees, etc.
