Complaint - Unfair defective product return policy

Review by randall72 on 2011-05-17
RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA -- Warning! Homesecuritystore sent me a defective motion sensor. They gave me an RMA number to return the sensor but made me responsible for the paying shipping fee to their warehouse AND shipping for a repaired or new sensor! Being that they sent me a defective product they should stand behind their equipment and at least cover the cost of shipping just out of mere inconvenience. Their policy is their policy so be warned.

I'm not sure I agree. if its broke, the company needs to make sure first. the company is not able to verify that unless its returned. so the cost of return shipping should be on you. however, the new one should be sent on their dime once its confirmed its broke. so I think you should pay shipping there, they should pay shipping back. of course the cost of shipping today has gone through the roof, and if they are a small company, competing on the internet, their profit margin may be so low they could lose money on the deal shipping a replacement. so maybe the moral of the story here is, deal with larger companies that have a reserve to pay for shipping. have you seen what it costs to ship a 2 pound item via usps? its crazy high.

Sadly, this is standard procedure. Places that will pay any shipping are few and far between. I understand how you feel, but when returning items, Regardless of the reason, I have never ahd anyone pay the shipping back. with one exception, and that was Sturm, Ruger, when I sent them a pistol for repairs. Hats off to Sturm. Ruger Co.
