McDonald's Corporation Complaint - Shakes...drink at your own risk!
FARMINGTON, NEW MEXICO -- That's what I was told during my last trip through the local drive thru. I ordered a strawberry shake and a couple of food items. We paid and pulled through to the next window. The employee then told us that the shake machine was broken (par for the course at this location).
They politely asked if we would like to substitute another beverage. I declined, as my heart was set on a shake that particular afternoon. Instead, I opted to have my money refunded, which the nearby manager happily obliged. Simple enough story, huh? Well, if it ended there then I would be inclined to agree.
This is where it gets interesting. Apparently, the machine wasn't already broken...it in fact JUST broke, while making my shake. The following events are mind boggling, to say the least. The manager hands me my refunded change for the shake, and also hands me the shake. She says, "Here, you can have it anways if you like. I'm not sure if its any good...you'll just have to drink it at your own risk". WTH? What kind of manager willingly and knowingly hands food to a customer that could very well be compromised? She was very nice and polite the entire time, and seemed to have the best of intentions. But that doesn't excuse the fact at hand.
As a side note, I didn't drink the shake. I looked at the bottom, through the clear plastic, and I saw a clear yellow fluid. Almost like a lubricating oil of sorts. Again, the manager chimed in ever so politely, "Well its free, so drink it if you want to".
